To Pirate or not to Pirate - caylith - 05-12-2007 (i hope the poll comes out okay, never done one before...can someone help me with the poll?) Okay so here goes. I've been seeing a mess load of pirates lately strutting around in their cruisers and battleships. Blood Dragons (Outcast Destroyer) in Texas... what?!? Blowing me up in my Guardian, what?!? Crazy stuff has been going on lately. Why are all these pirates, who are not affiliated with any faction, pumping up the big guns at a time when all the lawful factions are downsizing their fleets? How the hell can they go around pirating if they're bowling through with capital ships bigger than gunboats? I, as well as many others on the server, have stepped up trading. To tell you the truth, if it's not one of the Phantoms (yes, they WILL kill me despite having a Phantom char..blessed RP), I haven't run into a single pirate in a couple of weeks. Oh, they're on all right. Just they're flying their BS or Cruiser and attacking the SA or KNF. Now, as to the 'freelancers' flying BS's... case in point, last night, as [Phantom]Onyx, I encountered an Outcast Dread with a zoner ID and a police tag in New Berlin. I was quite confused frankly. After destroying a trader he expected me to show my face to him. Of course I didn't give him that satisfaction. Turns out this was the same guy who wanted to join the KNF and keep his Dread. So, is the whole reason people are buying these things to ask to get into factions? Or do they just want to strut around in their caps? Yes, everyone knows i'm the queen at complaining about capships! I'm trying to make a point about an unaffiliated (faction wise) pirate paying for and upkeeping a BS. Especially when they don't have any funds coming in from pirating the traders and stuff. We almost had that balance again...pirates/terrorists in fighters (or at least a balanced battlegroup) coming in for a raid whilst there is a wing of fighters to fend them off. Now it seems as though the guys who DON'T have the RP to explain such BS's are coming down to smack everyone with their big bad ship. I think they just want to win. I will not employ the help of such BS's. They're too big and clumsy to get in and out fast enough, if they want to fly with me...get in a fighter. This was not meant to flame, just to point out the obvious. I sincerely hope no one takes offense to this. Please just think about what you're going to write before you start to flame. So, what say you? To Pirate or not to Pirate - McNeo - 05-12-2007 What say I? I say this: I agree with your opinion, and it would be good if there was a rule like only one or two battleships per faction and no cruisers or above for the lonely pirate. It is true factions are starting to use more fighters and less capital ships, but as you say, the lonely pirate isnt following suit at the moment. So i propose that either the Pirates who are on their own are restricted completely from battleships or that all un-factioned characters are not allowed battleships. It is a pretty restrictive rule, but what can a lonely pirate afford? surely, they cannot afford a battleship, let alone a cruiser. Im sure an organisation of pirates ( BDR, TBH etc) could save up to afford one or two, but loners cannot have any excuse to have a battleship. Cruisers are considerably cheaper, so they are ok, but battlships are certainly too expensive for one person to finance with RP, unless we have somthing like the Sirius Lottery or somthing... So yeah, no battleships for characters not in a faction!!:nono:. EDIT: I put, I dont agree for all three, because i dont believe they should have battleships in the first place!! To Pirate or not to Pirate - Lt.Cmdr.Olsav - 05-12-2007 Totally agree, in fact ive never fought in anything bigger than a rogue gunboat, and i feel that that the smaller ships are much more useful, and more logical, no way that an independent pirate can have battleship when system owning factions are trying to only have 1 or 2 big ships. I think that battleships should be a faction only right, same with cruisers and frigates, only gunboats can be purchased without admin approval. I would much rather have large dogfights with fighters and gunboats than large clumsy battleships. Also, these independent pirates, have no real rp, or sense of politics, rather a run and gun attitude wthout rp restraint. I find that the only independents worth their saltare tose that have threads on the forums. i mean these random battleships, let alone have a faction, dont even come on the forums. Sorry for a mild rant, just pisses me off a bit, when i show up to a battle in a wrath, and every independent and half of the lawfuls are all there with cruisers and battleships. To Pirate or not to Pirate - Exile - 05-12-2007 Well, i agree on the good RP, but to have a pirate trader funding a pirate ship, dont agree. I recently got an corsair osiris ~tauri~seras. and today i fought the SA ( i knew the guy, else i wouldnt have ) but it was because we both had fun and we both agreed to do a little pvp. Maybye we should restrict those with cap ships as a pirate to certain systems, for example : i stay in omicron gamma and other corsair space (+Nomads). If all caps yust stayed with their RP and stay in their own systems, them im fine with it. but no, i cant agree with mcneo that the only way you can have a pirate cap is to join a pirate faction. try to inmagine howmanny pirate factions there would pop up. To Pirate or not to Pirate - Doom - 05-12-2007 for me it is quite simple.... no battleships for pirates...(corsairs, outcasts and lane hackers not included here - they are more then pirates, and they actually have their Bships, and Hackers are most wealthy criminal organization)... now that i have written it seems unfair to others....but others are way too small organizations to even try to make ship of that size To Pirate or not to Pirate - Malaclypse 666 - 05-12-2007 Firstly, Thanks, Cay. Thoughtful and only mildly inflammatory, as always. Secondly, thanks, Mcneo for pointing out why my vote wasn't tallying.. had to fill in all the blanks.. aargh. Thirdly, I've voiced my "druthers" enough elsewhere, so I assume you know how I voted. Fourthly, I'm definitely willing to read the RP of these blokes, if/when they can be arsed to create some... Fifthly, Eris advises that everything happens in Fives, so here ya go, ya bloody wankin' Goddess. Kallisti! Malaclypse (My friends, faction-mates, and those who "write books" can call me Mal) To Pirate or not to Pirate - DBoy1612 - 05-12-2007 Huh, well I voted Don't Agree on all of them. First, Pirates should not have battleships in the first place. (Unless its Outcast, Corsair, or Lane Hacker. As they have there own already). Its not like there going to go blow up Traders in a BS right? And yes, I have noticed that Factions are dieing down on Capships but Freelance Players are not... Thinking they can do whatever the hell they want they want because they don't have a faction tag on. All in all, I agree. To Pirate or not to Pirate - Hylden - 05-12-2007 Okay, my opinion. Each pirate clan should have only 1 bs... no more. I mean the boss should have one, defending their main base or system. Others below the boss should have vhf, and a couple of gunboats. That's all. They should not be able to take a lawful faction on, and win in battle. To Pirate or not to Pirate - Exile - 05-12-2007 Dont agree with that hylden, if it was like that, then allmost ANNY lawfull faction can destroy ANNY pirate faction. not good balanced imo. To Pirate or not to Pirate - Nightfall - 05-12-2007 My stance about this is well known. Make a RP out of it and with something more elaborate than 'we stole it' or 'we scrapped it'. Freelance pirates... be real, when would you make something like a Battleship? Specially by pirating? Definitely not role-play in my book. I have no problem with you going on the PvP Server and have whatever you want and go wherever you want, it's not so restrictive RP-wise as here. Don't come here just to act like an @$$ and spoil people's fun. Though, generally, acting like an @$$ can bring you only a ban. |
