I recently tried to get back into FL. Been awhile but I never had no problem before.
Deleted some old mods from FLMM 1.13 that I had at the time and lost sparodic GUI and or Ingame voice/sound.
Uninstalled FLMM (after closing all mods) and Freelancer.
Rebooted.
Installed Freelancer (from orig CD), applied MS update 1.1.
Started new game....still same sound issues.
Installed new FLMM 1.31
Downloaded Disco mod 4.85 (auto patched to version 1)
Launched via FLMM 1.31 (no old game files) and getting sometimes GUI sounds but never in game voice/ pub chat etc.
I running Vista 64 but never been a problem before....
Any ideas? I want to get it all right before I cast off from the quay:)

Sorry to waste time...windows update on sound card drivers defaulted to 5.1 digital speaker system.
Reverted to plain sterio and everything tickety boo...
