New Ship class idea - Fletcher - 10-26-2009 I've been thinking (oh noez). Most fights I've taken part in involve getting up close and personal, this includes some of the capital ship battles, a sort of malformed jousting match. I suggest a ship class that is meant to stay out of arms length of other capital ships, and even bombers. This ship class is an armoured gunship that has four long range guns, but they're slow firing. However, the firing arcs are at the sides of the ship, forcing the pilot to fire in turret view. I think this ship would be quite hard to master, but in the right hands, can tip the balance in capital ship battles since they're out of range for conventional weapons, forcing the decision with pilots. Attack the fire-support ship, or attack the other capital ships. This ship I compare to an AC-130 Gunship. So feedback on this idea? New Ship class idea - Colonel.Tigh - 10-26-2009 Cruisers were ment to fill this role, with long range missiles...but they all fire forward:P As for the AC plains are transport ships, with guns mounted on them. Their military use is extremely limited, you need 100% and compleat and unchanlangable Airsuperiority, and an enemy who does not have Infantery to Air missiles. In space, and in freelancer this could never be done. New Ship class idea - Coin - 10-26-2009 So these 'sniping gunboats' would make the diff in mixed battles? how about a regular gun that snipes? super long range, reeeeeeeeeeeally slow recharge, decent hull damage, crappy shield damage, average to good projectile speed. aiming at a BS from miles away could be fun.... It's an awesome idea. I would love to see it, but I see these only working in fleet battles, unless it is given a way to easily keep its distance. This is kinda what they were meant for, yet they suck utterly at it. Gunboats are fine Battleships are overpowered Cruisers need the buffs right now New Ship class idea - Mounteblanc - 10-27-2009 If cruisers are made long range, I see further balancing issues with the Siege cruiser's forward gun. At a range of 5k, it would be near impossible to hit anything but the Barge with something that fires straight forward. Other than that, and the Blood Dragon cruiser (It has a forward gun too), making cruisers long range would be awesome. |
