Need RP advice/help here - mang109 - 11-07-2009

So- The Situation:

I am GMG

I Intercept a Junker carrying Liberty Police Pilots and BH Pilots in his hold. In Sigma 13 this is, the GMG area of influence.

- My RP view :

This is contraband- a Junker should not have them in his hold- he will not return them to their homes. I as the lawful force of the area need to ensure they are returned .

- His view

Its not my jurisdiction ( his word)

-What happens next :

I ask him to drop the pilots

He tells me Its not in my jurisdiction

I ask him what he intends to do with the pilots - hoping to get him with the " i will return them home " RP.

He yells accros system chat that im way out of my jurisdiction and need to read up on the GMG.

I decided that the situation was heading oorp and left.

I want to know if I was out of my jurisdiction, or if Ishould have aproached this from another angle, or if I should have persisted until he dropped them/ we fought.

Thanks

I suppose he was oorp. And yes, it's your jurisdiction. You could have fought him. Teach those damn oorpers a lesson...

It's your call basically. Whether you engage or not.

Try to reason with OORP in RP and teach them how to do it properly. If you leave or start reacting in an OORP way you're descending to their level.

But if all else fails, feel free to blow them to pieces.

but- my main worry is

was I wrong in the first place to ask him to drop the pilots?

You were the LAW in the system. Moreover, the LPI pilots are hostile to Rheinlanders, just as the GMG are, so you are technically allied.
You made a reasonable inRP demand - drop the pilots. He did not comply. Destroy his ship.

Forgive me for being so blunt, but that's how these things should go.

You do not need to "read up" on anything. It is well in your limits to take them from him. It is actually well in your limits to actually kill him for the ignorance. but ofcourse, that means that junkers might possibly get angry at your superiors etc etc.
but its better to rp it out than to oorp it out

As GMG Guild Master, I would like to point out that Sigma-13 is wholly and entirely the sovereign space of the GMG.

Anyone who would like to think otherwise is in need of an education...

As for the demand of pilots. Whilst the Liberty government is not strictly an ally of the GMG, they are a very large customer (for both us and Kishiro). Any authority across Sirius is entitled to make demands such as this at its discretion.

The pilots thus freed become political prisoners for whoever freed them - to be returned, held hostage, or executed depending on political circumstances of the time.

It is your Jurisdiction it is Like Alpha for Outcasts you GMG control the Sigma 13 you can Ask him to drop contraband for sure that was OORP by him

To be honest, depending on the tone he uses, he may well have been RPing. Directly contradicting the true rights of factions is a sure way to make people doubt themselves, and possibly get away with a lighter sentence or somesuch. So, if he said something like "HEY! This isn't your jurisdiction, GMG. I am carrying these pilots through the Yanagi Field. You'd better read your guidelines, because you are out of line here!" he would just be trying to RP weasel his way out of it, but, if he said "You can't do that here. You'd better read up on what the GMG do." he would be fringing on whining in an OoRP fashion.

Really, like all writing, RP is all about tone. People can try and play pirates as confident jerks, but, "Two million or die!" doesn't quite sound the same as "Your stench rots this place. Compensate me for the appointment with my physician with two million credits. If you don't, it may be your physician who receives an unwanted letter."

Yes a bluff can sometimes work - I have had GMG pilots bluffed by the Hogosha before!

As I said to Mang - use your instincts when it comes to stuff like this.
