The Discovered unofficial faction write-up - Corsair - 11-08-2009

Background:

The Discovered. Such a title only truly given to those who have resigned themselves from their life in Sirius to instead lead one of enlightenment. Sirius is full of confused people. Those who call themselves Discovered seek to ease these troubled minds and set them on a non destructive path through means of persuasion. They are the true Neutral, and gladly devote themselves to maintaining this neutrality.

The Discovered have no rigid system of leadership. They have rather 'Echelons' of enlightenment that signify their magitude of service. At the bottom, you have the Bright Ones. Once the Bright Ones have proven themselves to be competant in their neutrality, they are then considered Shining Ones. The duty of a Shining One is to instruct Bright Ones on proper ettiquite as well as their duty of upholding neutrality.

Once a Shining One has proven his worth again, they are advanced to Gleaming Stars. This is the first-to-highest Echelon of enlightenment. Gleaming Stars are considered Elders, and deserve respect for their considerable efforts in maintaining peace and balance. Most Gleaming Stars have reached a point where they are content. They have prestige, they have honor, but the ambitious ones reach for the top. The Enlightened are the true top. They have aspired to great things, and have met many people. There are very few Enlightened due to the fact that it could take nearly a century for one to reach the level of supreme neutrality required for it. Enlightened are the great moderators of Sirius. They have long forgone their aggresion and malice. But they have no benevolence or mercy, either. They hold bias in nothing, and their scale tips neither way. They are the staple of what The Discovered stand for, and their judgment is final.

Rules and guidelines:

Fly civilian ships and carry no ordanance. Weapons are allowed solely for attaining neutrality, then are to be sold. (If an administrator does not grant Neutrality first)
Do not show bias. If you have an Outcast or Police character, do not give leniance to your fellows.
The goal is to be absolutely neutral. You will not assist in an attack or defense.
Do not follow peoples' fears and be 'server police'. Do not instruct people in 'proper' roleplay, because there is none. However, blatantly obvious errors must be corrected (The Blood Dragon BS in Liberty example is applied)
In case of player-player disputes, attempt to settle the problem as a neutral third party.

Objectives:

Instruct new players on basic rules and roleplay (Not rules lawyering or dictating.) by means of demonstration in roleplay. E.x, Newbie 1 is ramming a capital ship. Bright One approaches and finds a roleplay example to be publicly displayed, and PMs Newbie 1 suggesting he stops. Explain the effect of ramming, and sanction-happy players.

Reduce the amount of sanctions in Discovery. THIS IS OUR PRIMARY GOAL. Whether this is by settling player-player disputes or correcting behavior that might become problematic, we find a way to keep admins off the job.

Enhance general roleplay around Sirius. As far as I know, there are no true neutral groups out there to date, besides the Angels. The Discovered seek to be entirely in-roleplay.

Member expectations:

In discussion, people have been worried about certain points. The most severe being Server Policing and Roleplay Dictation.

The Discovered are going to have to be creative. If one of us sees OBVIOUS rule violation, we not only have to find a way to stop the behavior, but reverse it and turn it into something productive. Using the Newbie ramming the capship example, the Newbie now owes a debt to the capital ship for damages, and must follow the capital ship on it's escort path. Possibly (If the capship is willing) fund the Newbie a police ship to aid in any potential troubles.

This sort of behavior would enhance newbie relation in the server, meaning a larger, more Roleplay savvy playerbase.

Nice. . .

Are there ranks or is it just plain out "You're hired!"?

It looks pretty cool, and obviously helpful!
I ended up joining a faction early on so I could be schooled well, so this would be great.

Also, make sure you have 'Beige Alerts', and I'll tell your next of kin you said hello.

Erm... The Angels? Eh. I see no difference, other than the In-RP attempt.

The solution, therefore, is to hire more angels.

* Kazinsal hasn't been sanctioned, recruiters!

Acknowledged.

At the moment, anyone wishing to join should contact Sassafras.

(Whilst recruitment is closed, I would prefer some more Angels being added as some are inactive.)

Well, things would be a lot easier for me to develop this, if my Special Roleplay request for neutrality hadn't been denied.

This won't stop me from getting on now and then to roleplay. I make occasional appearances, more so now that I know that I won't be getting a Neutrality rephack or ID.

Though I don't know why my request for the above was denied.

I assume it's because you're capable enough to do the job without it.
