Getting something "accepted" in RP - abbamouse - 11-08-2009 My Cryer character has made some really interesting "discoveries" over the last few months (notably, the AADS epidemic, which is still in its infancy) However, these have implications for the RP of some other factions, especially Planetform. Should I keep them secret until I have a consensus from the Cryer board of Directors to release the research? Should I trumpet it on the forums? I'm really unsure how to go about introducing this RP to other people, particularly since it isn't "story" based (although his daughter suffers from AADS) but rather "research" based. Biographies of researchers aren't interesting, and they aren't really even "stories" by the conventional criteria. But I spent a fair amount of effort creating research reports and I'd like to contribute that to the server. Any general ideas? This is really the first time in years that I've made a determined effort to work through a player faction from start to finish. I'm just not sure how much it matters to anyone else, even though most of Sirius would at least me interested in my character's findings. Getting something "accepted" in RP - Cris - 11-08-2009 Well to have a story accept you need to follow some requirements -The obvious stuf; gramar adn such, peopel dont liek reading storeis or threds wit lots of typografical erorrs -Dont powergame the story; like saying, "so due to his research, planetform merged with cryer and now they are the same company, and my guy was named the boss" Because people wont like that, unless you have some RP discussed over with people involved. If you are going to affect other faction RP, you should talk to the leaders of those factions first, to see if they like it and approve it. -Remember how harsh things may get, people want high quality stories. - Use (.) (; ) (!) and all the fancy signs because people dont like reading a story that doesnt have any kind of marks or pauses or its only 1 paragraph-wall-o-text it gets boring and annoying as you can tell by this you are reading so make sure to double check your story and any marks you use before posting. - Keep it as realistic as you can. Dont make you char act like a superhero; he is human, he is a researcher, hence coward by nature:P - About researchers stories. You can make it like a diary; instead of a report you can write it like some "neural log" your character keeps. Dont write only about research or AADS (whatever that is); talk about his feelings, his surrounding, people around him, scenarios and backgrounds. If you land at manhattan; use a paraghrap to stop the story and describe how you imagine it. As long as you dont powergame it again (like saying that all manhattan was on fire and everyone was dead). -Keep people's atention. Dont use a lot of text for just one scene; it will make people lose atention and interest; make short but juicy scenes and people will keep wanting more. having severa characters is a good idea; so you can use some time to describe them or their feelings. Dont reveal all the important stuff at once, if you reveal the whole plot on the first paragraph, the rest is history and no one will want it - And finally; a personall tought. If you are making several chapters; make the first post on the thread the first one, and post a new reply for the next chapter and another for the next. As you can see by this reply; reading wall of texts gets boring; and dividing the story per posts, makes it easier for people to retake the story at any point without having to spend a lot of time searchinf the last thing they read. It also gives a sense of freshness or something |
