I am honestly perturbed at the number of people who misunderstand this particular rule.

' Wrote:5. General PvP Rules
5.2 All attacks must be the result of some form of role play. "Engaging" is not sufficient. An attack is any hostile action that drains shields to less than 50%. Being hit with a CD is not considered an attack. If a player is attacked he has a right to defend himself regardless of who is attacking.

Nowhere in this rule does it say "Engagement Notice." In fact, it says that engagement notices are by and large insufficient. What is required is "...some form of roleplay.".

At no point and time does anyone have to say "Engaging" or "Engaging hostile" or "Weapons hot" or any derivative thereof. The only reason this rule was enacted was to make sure that the other side was at the computer and aware of the threat around them. This is not an interpretation, I was there when the rule was enacted. If Roleplay has occurred, the person is obviously there and aware that there is someone red on their scanners.

To make the rule completely clear to everyone:

AN ENGAGEMENT NOTICE IS NOT REQUIRED. "...SOME FORM OF ROLEPLAY." IS REQUIRED. NO ONE EVER HAS TO BLATANTLY TELL ANYONE ELSE THAT HE IS GOING TO SHOOT.

Understand? Versteht?

That is all.

Perfectly. I tend to tolerate/disregard those that don't understand - I'm having more fun that way, which is why I'm here. But it's nice of you to highlight it, Baconsoda. Thanks.

ENGAGUGINS YOU RED, PEW PEW PEW

What ever... yea nice RP does not need to have "Engaging" in it.. but who cares.. as long as there is RP and not just one word and you already lost your shields.

Read this. It was discussed before I made the pinned post.

I'm assuming this is in response to a certain user expressing how "bad" it was for the Phantom Pitchfork to fire without an engagement notice.

And Baconsoda is in the green here.
All you need is roleplay. Not an engagement notice...

You should know that once something is pinned it is doomed to death. You can always read it later! :P

Just joking. Apologies for this thread.

Not in particular. It's just in general. I just wanted to clear things up.

ive seen...
  1. fire
  2. shoot it
  3. kill it
  4. go
  5. weapons free
  6. shotre
  7. die
used as engagement notices.

Common Sense Notice - Camtheman Of Freelancer4Ever - 11-22-2009

Heh, funny part is I was confused. I would always roleplay beforehand, but then right as i got to where I would fire I'd say engaging.

So now its like...

LWB: I hope you've got soup flavored synth paste.
Synth Foods: Why?
LWB: Because its about to boil.
