Gallia.... - ProwlerPC - 11-25-2009

I can't say that I am impressed with that area of space and it's a struggle to keep interest.
I recently set out to make my first smuggler/pirate char and decided to make it a Gallic Brigand. It's been quite the ordeal and I have yet to achieve the IFF and ID yet. I foolishly decided to go in with a little starflea not realizing the difficulties of acquiring a bribe to get equipment necessary to do missions. I flew to every Council/Brigand/Corse/Maquis base with no luck. Finally near the Outcast end I went to the Junker base. I only found the bribes for Council and Corse, I took those and went back to Burgundy where I only found a Maquis bribe. Fine enough, I was able to purchase the Brigand HF and equip it with Maquis and Corse weapons and snagged the Recruit ID to begin doing Brigand missions.
I like to point out that I find it rather odd that Junker bases are the only location for these bribes, I thought they leaned towards the Gallic Police and Navy.
The other half of my issue is the player base, the tagged ones. What a disheartening series of encounters it has been made even more grim by uncommon and spread out those encounters are. No matter the IFF/ID/Tag the "RP" I received was ALL a warning of "don't do this or else" or "don't go there or else" etc... even if the faction the player is representing is allied to the one I'm associating with. It's funny cause I haven't even begun to do any heavy interaction yet, just trying to get my ship setup. Gone is the thought that these relentless warnings are part of any sort of RP. It all reeked of a common OOC motivation to drive out any "lolwuts" and it has reached a level where they aren't applying any efforts to discern whether the player they are warning is good RPr or not. A gift wrapping of "lolwuttery" being placed over any new ship beginning in there is what I sense. At it's most positive the best I received was "well call it a future warning in case...". In case what? That I suddenly decide to change my game and start firing on any ship that moves? I don't know but I am not sure if I like the idea of playing in Gallia if I gotta be at the receiving end of OOC-based RP and get stuck using modified RP with the OOC motivation of trying to prove to the local players that I am good RPr to have around. I'd like to say that such can be accomplished through good example but that gets nullified when I am under attack before I even got my char made and not by just one but as I said from all colours flying in there.
[/end rant]

sorry to hear. perhaps you will run into my Junker character one day.
I decided to go against the flow, and took my junker guard ID out to gallia when they changed it, instead of crying about it and buying the Junker ID like everyone else did.

also, there is a bribe for Gallic Brigands, the only one in the game, available at Lodeve Space Port. maybe you just gotta keep trying until you see it....

also, i have had firsthand, a good roleplay experience with the GRP.

2 hours we sat there, RPing and not a single shot was fired. Twas nice.

not everyone is as it seems, just hang in there.

too bad you cant F1, not to escape piracy, but to escape bad RP.

Not as bad as New York.

My recruit rogue:

ITS A ROGUE FIRE!

And I have about 10 indies drop down on my Bactrain.

Look at the bright side - once the server is back to being fully operational, when the actual player count is low enough that npc's spawn again, you can also experience the fun of npc ganking and rape. You know it's bad when - and I experienced this first hand - the npc's attack a gunboat and the gunboat cannot escape. And I had Cap IV armor - they fired that quickly and that accurately - and I never got a chance to kill one of them.

It's basically as bad in Gallia as it is for a bounty hunter out in Delta that gets jumped by two Corsair npc patrols - although I've survived that before.

Yep, OORP motivation to protect Gallia from 'lolwuttery' is so high they wont let a flea in that isn't clearly someone setting up a lawful.

Sad to see you've been disappointed with Gallia partly because of it aswell...
EDIT: Ninja'd by a moderator... -_-

I'm a bit of a trooper so I'll continue with my new char and tough it out. I adhere to RP based on in-game lore so ultimately I'll make a home for my Brigand in the long run. I am concerned that there is a mentality beyond the Gallic xenophobic RP that may be unfriendly to new players in that locale, however, with this thread and ensuing Skype talks I found some hope. The hope being that Gallia will finally meld with the rest of Sirius.

If you're trying to set up for the lawful side, chuck me a PM. As for the unlawful side, try Le Counceil? I admit that the majority of the gallic players are a bit.. Meh, and there's only one or two-three who actually try. (Sounds ego? Meh, oh well. Truf galore.) Though, keep in mind it's in it's early stages. Lots of things bound to happen, probably.

Also please note that fighting NPC's in a mission at the current time is... let's say you'll need a day and one hour unless you sit right next to the current server, and maybe even then.
Those ships are zipping back and right and up and forth and down and left and elswhere....

(nothing against the new server owner, they're already doing a nice job)

Thanks, the road to being a lawful Gallic was very appealing to me, playing as a lawful is ingrained into me. For now I wanna try my hand at smuggling and some occasional opportunistic cargo piracy. Chances are I'll move back into a lawful patroller but for a long time I've danced the notion of making a smuggler and have recently made that step. Should be fun.
Yes I noticed the NPC's erratic behavior. Took me a long time to complete 2 missions against GRP LF's . You know I couldn't help but smile at the NPC support I got. 5 Jaguars against GRP LF's helping me in my Cuirasseur. Crossfire was amazing and just as likely to hit friends as the enemy.
Thanks for the tip on the bribe, fun stuff. In a flea to all the systems when I could've gotten the job done in the initial system :P I'll actually need it or I'll find myself shooting allied NPCs in order to gain my IFF or spending on droprep.

Don't even talk about GRP LF's. I somehow feel someone just copied the behaviour of the KSP and gave it some new ships/weapons. And fighting KSP NPCs is bad, even on a good day.

And about smuggling, as a Brigand, you have many bases to supply with various goods. It may not be that big profit, but if you're someone like me who has everything he wants and now slowly throws away the stuff he doesn't need, it'll be perfect for you.

reminds me to start a poll about how many traders the average Disco-addict has. *shudders*
