Start with In-Game RP, then forum RP should come naturally.

As Birtalon said (twice:P), learning to roleplay in-game is a gradual process, which becomes easier over time.
In terms of getting a better feel of how people go about this on the forums, try having a look at faction message dumps or the stories section of the forums, here and here respectively

You should also take a look at the server/forum rules section as well, as they're good to know about and be aware of.

Browsing and learning through silly mistakes is best.
Find the Stories and Biographies section, and start a story.
Or browse some of the Communication Channel posts and see how other do it.
