EDIT 4: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING!!!!
For those of you not familiar with EVE's game mechanics, here's how this MMO works. you start in a starter ship and have to progress to whatever you want. Now, for the pvp part, you lose your ship when you die. But never fear, because if your half way intelligent you have saved up MONEY to replace your ship OR you have another character who makes your money.

My death code doesnt reset your wallet to 0 and put you in a starflier, it puts you in a starflier at your last docked location with your current reputations as well as your current wallet. Therefore, if your half way intelligent, dying wont be the end of the world.

Also, the reason pvp in freelancer is so empty is that there is no risk:reward. The risk here is losing an expensive ship and having to rebuy it, but the reward will be taking control of space for your clan. I am working on a system where clan owners can take space and automatically make improvements on it.

I understand a lot of you guys find this an alien concept, but trust me from having played EVE for 2.5 years that it works.

My Post:

As you all know, I have wanted a somewhat more pvp oriented mod for some time. But, I obviously dont want to ruin RP on the server, I mean thats mean and it is fun. So, I have this idea.

What IF I got permission to make a modified discovery that implemented the pvp mechanics (player lose ship at death, stuff like that) and hosted it?

The only issue is that I'd need to modify discovery to have some DLL strings that allow my pvp mechanics to work. The problem there is that I won't be able to forward releases very easily. So, I need to either fork it or write an autoupdator.

Personally, I'd find it 99% easier to fork it since then it can just be downloaded. But the problem is I've read your "Stolen Discovery" story and wonder if this would get classified as the same thing.

So, here is my idea to make sure the original creators are recognized.
  • Intro movie of credits for original disco 4.85
  • made it generally clear that only the pvp changes are my work
  • provided a link to the original discovery mod
  • release it under a derivative title, idk, such as Discovery: Sirius at War
There are also some reasons to support this...
  1. It will get me to stop nagging for pvp changes on the mod
  2. IT WILL GET LOLWUT PVPERS OFF THE SERVAH
I also had an idea for these rules
  • NO PVP IN NEW YORK OR PENN
  • NO ATTACKING ANYONE BELOW LEVEL 20 UNLESS AGRESSED FIRST
But being the nice person I am, I won't do this if it will infringe on the rights of the original disco creators. I would also be interested in a collaberative project where I can simply make a Disco Mod for ____ PVP 24/7 and release it on the disco home page.

Idk thoughts?
It would be really cool to get permission for this.

EDIT: I would LOVE to if i cant do this just pack my changes and distribute em via the disco homepage as an optional download for the server.

EDIT 2:
disco of disco gives you like 2.7 billion and says "HAVE FUN"
Im trying to make a more EVE-Online style server where you have to build urself up AND pvp. Starting a character with 100k and a starflier and open pvp are not mutually exclusive.

EDIT 3: Not all pvpers want to just lolpvp in a battleship, thats the kind I am.

Send them elsewhere for PvP in BS?

Point em to Discovery of Discovery...

That's what it's for, right?

Does anyone want to build a character from scratch just to PvP?

I was under the impression that said "lolwut pvpers" play on the server because we had one of the highest playercounts.

I am also told that, in the past, there was a PvP server. No one ever used it.

There all better

Sure, go for it, but be aware that this could turn out as a huge disappointment for you. As Gauss said, there was a PvP server before, and it didn't work out. I remember seeing about 8 players there, at the same time the RP server was full.

discovery pvp - Bear - 11-28-2009

I really wouldn't like to have start again on a pvp server full of lolwuts. It would just ruin the gaming experience, and plus, I like RP to much.

Just an average Joe point of view (mine). Also if people don't see a good number of players on the server then they won't go there because it will be to hard to find and interact with anyone.

I give this idea zero out of ten stars.

You've got to give him at least a half star for effort.
