Ageria paramilitary faction idea - Corsair - 12-28-2009

Ageria is big. It's a big corporation. It controls Sirius through it's production of Gate, Lane and ship manufacturing. It's a shadowy corporation. It has one 'child' company, a security firm. But this security firm is just a front. It's employees something very different from your average Rent-a-cop. Calling them Mercs is too general, Assassins too precise. They can escort a convoy on contract and then openly engage hostile forces the next. Deployed against Rheinland and Rogues in the same day. Been hired to assassinate civilian and political targets. In and out of Liberty.

Most people know them as 'The Eye' because almost nothing escapes their notice. Everybody knows that Ageria funds the small security firm. But nobody connects The Eye to this rent-a-cop company. Nobody alive, any way. Ageria holds these people under tight wraps. They are the corporation's arm that extends to where normal military or hired gun cannot go. They strike hard and fast, and arrive back home in time to run to the aid of local police or military. And then likely are back in the fray to do the dirty work of their employer.

I thought of this concept while cruising the factions, and thought, You know, there is a distinct lack of paramilitary around here. Much less owned by corporations. You could call the this a KoF clone, but THIS is much different from the KoF.

Now, the idea behind this is a Ageria-controlled paramilitary that would operate on a contract basis for the good of their parent corporation. Not just hired guns, because these guys operate for the company. Planetside, they work as intelligence operators.

What I was planning on equipment wise was-

Civilian line ships, weapons, including the Ageria bomber. Negotiations can be made for LN equipment, but not ships. Possibly Bounty Hunter equipment/ships.

If I get some criticism, I can get this faction off the ground- found some kind of hierarchy, operations, negotiations.. RECRUITS.. I want to know what this sounds like so far.

Time to expand this a bit, by way of a hierarchy. THESE ARE THE CLASSES THAT HAVE UNLIMITED NUMBERS, AND CAN BE WORKED FOR!

Recruit
The name says it all. This fellow is new to the group. He can fly his choice of shipline, but is limited to Civilian weapons and may not use Novas.

Private
They've shown themselves to be competant, and may now take a single Recruit to mentor. Access to Nova Torpedoes granted.

Ace
This is where the pilot's career splits. A Private can pursue a rank system in the combat class, or command class. If they choose combat, they are elevated to the rank of Ace, and allowed to fly any ship available and any weapons available.

Commander
After they have raised a Recruit to Private level, they are eligible for a command position. Once a higher-ranking officer can sponsor them, for some extraordinary feat or service, the Private is elevated in rank. They can choose this rank or Ace. Commanders have direct command over all combat and training ranks.

Commandant
A Commander who has proven his or her mettle can be promoted to Commandant rank. This is the highest rank you can work for. A Commandant is a higher strategy person who directs the field commanders from afar.

THESE ARE THE TITLES THAT YOU MUST BE CHOSEN FOR

Fighter jockey
By showing extraordinary skill in a fighter craft, you can be nominated for the title 'Fighter Jockey'. It holds no command position, but demands respect.

Bomber Jockey
Identical to the Fighter Jockey, but for those who know the difference between a SNAC and a Nova and can use them against any threat.

Crack Commander
Crack Commanders are Commanders or Commandants that have shown that they can make split-second decisions that can turn the tide of battle. Commanders with the Crack Commander title demand respect even from Commandants.

First off, the Comany's name is Ageira.

I dont really like the point of a paramilitary Group of a Company. Companies usally use their own escorts or Mercenaries. If you want to say that Ageira is big enough to have their own Special Units then I dont want to know what EFL has, since they built everything in Gallia. Ships, Stations, Lanes and Jumpgates...that would mean they'd have their own Army.

Ageria paramilitary faction idea - Corsair - 12-28-2009

The idea of this faction is that Ageira would have something more than just hired guns and escorts. Something that could get certain, delicate tasks done. If you've read the Deed of Paksennarion trilogy, that's the essential premise for this. A highly trained, contract-based army.

It's possible that EFL has a group like this. Nobody knows for sure. When you've got a job you really want done and you don't want to have any public ties with the group that does it, that's where this comes in.

I think Hackers would know about them. The Ageira Army I mean.

Ageria paramilitary faction idea - Corsair - 12-28-2009

Just because a majority of Hackers came from Ageria doesn't mean they know about The Eye. The Eye is higher-up corporate business, not worker labor.

But it is possible, and it would lead to an obvious conflict between the two groups.

Most corps could use thugs of some kind, too many pirates out these days. at any rate, unless you bribe the LPI or something, you cant get SNAC's. They are only sold in guard systems. they sell the regualr NOva on coronado, but no SNAC, and it makes me wonder if their want to encourage nova use or soemthing.

Read Leiden's infocard.

Ageria paramilitary faction idea - Corsair - 12-28-2009

Mind expanding on that, Sprolf? My computer doesn't have FL at the moment.

Sprolf are you sure you mean Leiden?

Quote:A Lane Hacker base. Lane Hackers use their proprietary technology to interrupt and seize shipments from Trade Lanes

That's from Wikipedia, but my Companion says the same just in german.

In case you meant Mactan what I really think; Shortcut -> Lane Hackers are always a step ahead Ageira.
Quote:Lane Hackers are mostly composed of former Los Angeles Ageira Technologies employees who

created the extremely complex scanning and database system known as USI (Universal Ship identification). Departing the company rather acrimoniously in 750 AS, they have become a growing problem in the Independent Worlds. The Lane Hackers in Magellan and Galileo share one common origin -- Ageira. The scandal that erupted within the company after the great Galileo bypass project, which resulted in the unnecessary construction of a hugely expensive set of Jump Gates and Trade Lanes, forced several executives and an elite development team out. This would become the second part of the core of the Lane Hackers, along with the original California scanner group that fled to Magellan.

The investigation continues to this day, but has so far been unsuccessful in locating the Lane Hacker bases. No Hacker has ever been captured, although various Rogues in the Independent Worlds have been caught possessing remarkably accurate information regarding upcoming high-value shipments. Security measures have been added to the software, but the Hackers remain one step ahead, leading Ageira security experts to believe that there are many sympathetic programmers still within the company, possibly being secretly paid off with the proceeds from the thefts. The Lane Hackers prefer to sell their information to others rather than do the dirty work themselves, although they sometimes swoop in and tractor in a cargo if its particularly juicy. Fancying themselves as modern-day Robinhoods, they avoid direct confrontation when possible, unless it is the henchmen of the despised IC and Ageira. They like to frequent Freeport 4 and the Ames Research Station, as their asteroid bases within the clouds can become claustrophobic. Their Cardamine addiction forces the Hackers to trade drugs for Trade Lane info with the Outcasts at the Mactan base. Leiden is a key transfer point for smuggled goods between Kusari and Liberty, especially the Artifact trade, which the Hogosha dominate. A steady stream of Hogosha ships make the journey to the Galileo system. The Lane Hackers have also been spotted in Colorado, leading authorities to speculate that there may be multiple Jump Hole routes into that system from the Independent Worlds.
