Few questions... - Ski - 06-29-2007 Hi all my first post :yahoo: OK, I have some questions and suggestions. First of all, discovery is the best mod ive found so far, amazing. I love the idea of capital ships without silly guns and shields!! Questions : 1. If I want to be a terrorist battleship, what faction options are available to me? (and where do you buy the ID from?) 2. Someone with a pirate ID, are they enemy's of corsairs / outcasts? 3. Any way to hack out the game to increase drawing distance or any other tweaks to increase the graphics settings as modern PC's can handle it nps. Suggestions : 1. Capital ship preview should be made available. Because of microsofts code, you are unable to preview a capital ship before purchase. 400 mil is a lot of money (for me, weeks of trading) only to buy a "cat in a bag". Sure I know everything about the ship its in the mod readme, but how it looks? I recommend a post on forum showing pictures of all 300+ mill ships that you cannot preview in a station. 2. Cant find the thread now, but the post suggesting making mining, missions and other non trade related proffesions as profatible as trading is the best idea so far. Right now, no matter what faction you want to be, you will always need a trader account to bring in the cash and then transfere. Big no no :nono: 3. Too many rules to pirating. So many procedures, cant imagine its much fun. You have to approach, scan, demand money, wait for answer, chase, attempt to penetrade capital shields and capital thrusters... and all this in a non capital ship. being a trader myself i find it easy to escape pirates trying to grab my cargo, with good shields all they can do is wear you down very slowly (by which time you can dock anywhere). Pirates did not follow any rules. It appears rules were put in discovery maybe because admins got a lot of stick from noobies and have to listen to people crying about a pirate killing them.. when infact thats what pirates do, sneak up, use dirty tactics, kill you make fun of you and move on. I hope the above does not appear aggressive but constructive:) Love the game and ive made myself nice and cosey on this server now  Few questions... - Lt.Cmdr.Olsav - 06-29-2007 ' Wrote:Hi all my first post :yahoo: 1) Cant happen 2)They can choose to be enemies of one or the other 3)Not really, believe me i have tried, the engine just tops out As for suggestions 1)Well it should matter more what faction it is from and what its stats are than the looks, however that would be helpful. 2) I agree on that point, i hate trading so i have very little money. 3) Well i agree on some of that, but we had problems and this was the only way to go. Thanks for coming out man, always good to see new blood. Few questions... - Ski - 06-29-2007 Thanks for reply:) Just wanted to add, using a Police/Trader/military account to trade, make loads of cash, then transfere it to a pirate account and attack the poeple who helped you (for example) is not very good RP. We really do need missions money boosted to match trading. Few questions... - Fellow Hoodlum - 06-29-2007 Hi there Skib, met in Alpha last night. Welcome to Disco. I think Olsav gave you a pretty good set of answers there, but if there is anything not clear, please drop me a PM. You are right about the trader situation, the roleplay has to be as clever as you can make it. Sort of taken for granted currently, that certain trading ships will be used for nefarious purposes. Just needs a little more invention to make it work for pirates. Though we had a corker from Majkp the other day concerning the use of trade money to fund a Corsair ship, so it can be done. One of my mates and I set up a private server where we could just load ourselves up with money. We tested out pretty much every battleship before we actually did the real thing on Discovery. I think that it's an excellent way to 'try before you buy'. You could also go and do it in single player, but then you can't PvP against real fighters (Player controlled fighters are obviously MUCH better than NPC's). You also get a feel for the ship, which weapons work best against which kind of ships etc etc. Welcome to Discovery, I hope to see you in game:) Regards, Shimmer Few questions... - ghostcat - 06-30-2007 Hmm, what I do is use the Open SP options in the mod activation screen to give myself tons of money and a neutral rep (allowing me to go anywhere and buy any ship). Heck, if I'm really feeling lazy I'll set myself to spawn in the same system as the ship I want to look at. On another note, your sig gives me a headache shimmer ^.^ Few questions... - Kira1997 - 06-30-2007 ' Wrote:3. Too many rules to pirating. So many procedures, cant imagine its much fun. However, there seems to be a misconception in your writing. 1. Yes, must scan for ID and can from almost 5k with Disco scanner 2. No, you don't have ta demand at 1st. You can attack and do as much damage short of death and then demand. This adds motivation to your pigeons to release the goodies or cash. 3. If said pirate has CDs he has plenty of time to split ya open if ya refuse. 4. On Cap shields and thrusters, I would not imagine pirating such for I believe not a single trade ship can equip one. Few questions... - Qunitinius~Verginix - 06-30-2007 If you want to test out your capital ship before you buy it, I would suggest re-activating the mod and opening it up again with Open Single Player. This way, you can choose what system to go to to buy your ship and test it out. Anyways, welcome to Discovery and have a good time! Safe flying and Good Hunting! You cant play as a terrorist battleship. Terrorist ID is given by the admins to chosen players. 2. No, but he will be less considered by corsairs and outcasts. When hes attacked by a lawful for example, corsairs and outcasts near will be less interested in helping him than if he was one of them. 3. No. Freelancer was released in 2002, so its a old game. ' Wrote:Suggestions : 1. The preview is possible. Run OpenSP, where you can start with any ammount of money you like. 2. Discovery is about two things: trading and battleships. You cant make too much money with missions or mining. Forget about it. 3. You forget about the rule which prohibits pirates flying cruisers and battleships of attacking any trader. These rules were made to appease the crying babies, but even with that, theres still traders complaining all the time about pirates. Fact is that some players think that roleplay is a kindergarten, with everything pink and beautiful. You forget about the rule which prohibits pirates flying cruisers and battleships of attacking any trader. SO, any pirate in a cruiser or a battleship cannot attack ANY trader? did I read this right? if thats the case, how else can u down a trader with a gunboat shield for example? even a bomber would strugle. Also if thats the case then what can pirates in a cruiserr actually do if they cannot pirate? Another question, I was cruising through Berlin in my outcast destroyer when i came under attack from RM boys out of nowhere. No warning nothing just boom and i exploded. Then they spammed that because i died in the system, i cannot return to this system. wtf is that about? can i not return there to get my revenge? If i cannot return to where i died that would only leave NY system open for me. Reason for above questions : I was getting bored of the game, grinding a trade route over and over for a solid week only to earn enough for a quarter of a BS i had enough and told my friend i was loosing interest so he said well do something exiting. What can i do exiting in a outcast destroyer? aparently i cant attack traders, i cant pirate.. the only thing i can do is go to gamma and meet 500 corsairs in their gunboats waiting for me and hold a lotto so the lucky winner can win explicit rights to kill me. I hope someone can clear things up for me, because being a pirate right now sucks as there are SOO many rules, its bad enough flying around with a huge "im a pirate" sticker above my head, how unrealistic can this get? |
