A suggestion of sorts.

A mine dropper that drops a mine that initiates an area of effect that lowers the hull over time, this is a tactical weapon that inflicts damage upon everyone.

No stats since this is just an concept idea.

Feedback?

I suggested a 'radiation gun' for ships a while back that would have to be constantly fired on an enemy ship, but would bypass shields and slowly eat away the ship's hull...

it was denied =(

Using a radiaton mine in Freelancer times would be akin to using Mustard gas today. It would not be a wide-spread weapon, but something found in the hands of only the most dangerous terrorists.

Yeah, that.

I like this... it's a pretty cool <strike>guy</strike> idea.

I think this idea would force people to scatter since radiation damages sub systems across the board.

Could be better if the radiation mines could only hurt when exploding, the hull of a ship. But it could only work if the mine hurt the hull directly. It would be useless against shield.

This could be a good tactical weapon. If heavily out numberd, a way to at least damage your opponents, but would be death to heavily damaged fighters.

Prehaps when it detonates, it does in a 1k area 1k hull damage a second for five seconds for 5k total ?

And how do you stop this mine's radiation when it's still in your ship?

I see this being spammed in group fights.

I would see this as a capital ship weapon, to keep fighters at bay. Yeah, it'd hurt the capital ship, but it'd help for defense purposes. Just make sure it's either got a low capacity or refire rate or a high energy usage (or combination of those) and make it restricted usage... only true military groups, or terrorists, could ever use it. Too high-tech otherwise.

And as for not damaging the ship in storage, clearly it's a warhead that needs to be armed. It's high-energy (high damage) which means it doesn't last very long (possibility of making a range of these things... high-energy or long-duration).

Sounds like a decent idea to me. But they do need limitations for sure.
