Medical Report 5632663
Patient: Sergeant Lovejoy Marshall

Synopsis:

Sgt. Marshall was brought in after suspected possible infection by Nomads. It had been apparent that his mind had been affected severely, but that he had managed to snap out of it in time to avoid complete destruction or infection. When he was brought in, he was quickly sedated and taken to the medical center. Pre-sedation, he appeared to have full faculty of both mind and body, and did not exhibit any of the most obvious signs of infection: glowing eyes, slurred speech, etc. We completed a thorough physical examination, including scanning for any traces of nomad activity. While he was cleared, it was obvious that his mind had been 'touched' by the nomads, to a much higher degree than would be expected if he was shielded normally.

We next began a barrage of tests on his mind. His intelligence tests remained unchanged from his last check up, and his emotional responses were normal, healthy, and human as well. He seemed quite embarrassed by the whole thing.

However, it is the judgement of this medical counsel that he not be put back into active duty on the forefront of the Nomad war.

His mind has been exposed to a much higher level of Nomad activity than is normal without the victim becoming an unwilling slave, or death. That he somehow survived and managed to find his way out of the illusions of the Nomad visions is either luck or through some biological mystery of his mind.

It has been the Order's experience that those who have once had their minds opened to the Nomads become vulnerable to their touch. It becomes easier for the Nomads to once again insert their macabre visions into their victims' brains.

Instead of duty in the Omicrons, it is our recommendation that Sgt. Lovejoy be put into duty as far away from the normal Nomad areas, such as Bretonia, with possible excursions into the areas of Liberty that border it. We have found that the longer it is between attempted probings of the mind by Nomads, the better the resistance that can be mustered. In a few months, Sgt. Lovejoy can be re-evaluated, and if deemed fit, cleared for active duty in the Omicrons again.

The Medical Counsel would like to remind the Fleet Admiral that if Sgt. Lovejoy encounters Nomads again too soon, he may not be able to recover.

Signed,
The Members of the Medical Counsel of Lisbon Station

Report on the Investigation into Sgt. Lovejoy Marshall's Loss of Control to the Nomads

We began this investigation first by examining the Sergeant's ship. It was taken apart, piece by piece, meticulously by our engineers. It was found to have no faults. The Nomad Shielding Device was active and working at the time of his landing at Lisbon.

However, a further examination discovered that for a period of one hour, his EMP device had been turned off. Looking back at his communication logs, it appears that he turned it off when confronting the Nomad known as "Ka'Rena". When the Isis had asked him why he had turned it off, he claimed that it was still on, and that the signal from his ship must have been scrambled due to his close proximity to a jumphole.

Closer investigation revealed that the device had been turned off manually, most likely in an attempt to communicate more freely with the Nomad. He then proceeded to communicate with "Ka'Rena", and gave periodic updates to the Isis.

After the communications had finished, he met up with Fleet Admiral Tovig Kelt, along with a few other Order agents, and investigated Omicron Iota, still without his EMP up. Not long after that, he and the other agents had a standoff with the Nomads, during which, they attempted to control his brain.

After repeated partial domination, and a very near complete domination of his mind, he was snapped out of it when he saw the LNS-Tundra, an infected Navy ship. His training overcame him upon seeing the ship, and in spite of being fired on by Order agents, proceeded his bombing run on the LNS-Tundra. This must have helped to break the Nomads concentration on him, as he shortly afterwards came completely out of his daze, and turned as much power as his bomber could spare into the EMP, thus preventing another mind control.

These are the findings of the internal investigation. Good day.

Greetings.

Everything noted. I was afraid about his mental health, sometimes, it turn bad for the prolonged exposure. The sergeant Lovejoy will be transfered to another unit, far from the war line. It will be decided by the Admirality of the Primary Fleet. However, I want some regular medical reports about him and... Keep an eye on his behavior. Nomads are tricky.
