What is cap-ship spamming. I hear this word used a lot, spamming of ships. Now I know that spam in the real world is a ham substitute. And I know that in the digital world, it is mass advertising emails sent to large lists of addresses not acquired from the owners of said emails. But what is spamming in the world of Freelancer?

It's very similar to a mass of advertising e-mails. It's excessive cap ship use by a person, faction, general community, etc.
In other words, it's people saying that too many capital ships are being used by players, rather than fighters or bombers.

Not going to name any factions for an example.
Basically say you have a 10 person faction. You have 10-15 fighters. Thats good. 5+ bombers, Good. 5 or less gunboats. 5 or less cruisers, 4 or less battleships. This would be a good configuration.
Now say you have a 10 person faction. You have 5 fighters, 3 bombers, 10 gunboats, 10 cruisers, and 8+ battleships. You have more capships than fighters/bombers. This is BAD and what most people refer to as capship spamming.
Now you can still capship spam with the good configuration for a faction's ships. They have all those fighters and bombers, but use capships 90% of the time. That would be capship spamming. Sure, they have the small ships. But if they are only seen in-game with the big ones, there is no difference between doing that and just having a bad configuration of ships. Both are capship spamming.
