Vista, and no global Server - Xerxas Jade - 07-26-2007

Ok here is a strange one...:)

im no newb at setting up firewall's so please refrain from telling me i have that set up wrong.

Ok I have a laptop running windows vista. (the problem seems to stem from that shocking opperating system in its self)
I have norton internet securiusty, but it is turned off and all the ports are correct on my hard where firewall but I can not see the globl server.

Now I also have a interesting other problem that is related,

I can be running a freelancer server on this laptop and it will not show up onder the local list??

Any idears people, I am certain that my firewalls are right, I do firewalls for a living so it would be well.... lets just say theres not wrong with them.

But I have no idear how vista works so if someone could enliten me about soething I have obviusly missed that would be great.

Regardless of whether Norton Security is off, and all ports are open, it makes changes to the Registry files. Use Norton's uninstallation wizard, not Microsoft's and install a different firewall. I like ZoneAlarm. But, whatever.

You will not be able to run FL with Norton, Mcafee, or Avast.

Yes. User Account Control is the root cause. But.. you need that on to run Freelancer Account Manager by Korrd, which most people use.

so if i kill user account control that should fix it then??, frankly for i dont mind if Korrd'a account manager dosent work, because im not about to leave a always on comp / webserver with out over kill on th viris front. Not to mention i want to be able to use norton considering how much it cost me for my 10 licence copy.............

It won't fix it, UAC is just the new function in Vista that causes this problem. Nothing short of calling God himself will fix this issue.
