I've read on the wiki that you could go 'engine kill' and that it was a common technique for fighting.

However, once in the game, I didn't see any commands that looked like it. Can someone care to explain to the poor newbie that I am?

I think Z is EK by default.

Thrust, as you pass your enemy, tap EK and turn your ship, you'll glide, much like a handbrake turn.

You cant E-Kill in F2 mode, As found out by me recently.

Thank you, I'll look into that. The main problem is that I have a French keyboard so I had to change the hotkeys, but I guess I'll figure it out.

Do you have to keep pressing Z (like thrusters) or is it once to go in mode once to get out (like cruise mode)?

You press it once and then use thruster to change direction. You can do it to go from cruising to "gliding" as well.

When you want to stop it just fire up your engines with...w or mouse wheel depends on your controls.

Find it in controls list and try it out. It`s even more fun to just fly around once you figure it out

Basically it's a Newton's First Law toggle. Only not, since you still slow down a bit.

In combat, it's essential to your survival.

Another thing you can do is just hit your thrust button. Unlike hitting your W or mouse wheel, the thrust button will thrust at max speed until you let it go, at which point you'll return to the ekill mode.. so basically using your thruster doesn't kill e-kill.

You have to press "Z", then "free flight". Then you fly engine-killed with 350, 349, 348, ... Starting your afterburner lowers your speed to 200.

If I remember this correctly, "free flight" isnt pre-set with a key on a fresh installation, but you can take a key for that in options/keyboard. Also there is a button to click in your hud.
