Admin Notice: Player Banned - Athenian - 02-27-2010
Quote:3.1 Using coarse language, posting abusive, hateful, racist content in chat, public or private is prohibited under any circumstances. Any kind of flaming, threatening or insulting language directed at other members, factions or server administrators in chat, public or private, is prohibited on server and on forums. RP-related threats are allowed on the server.
3.3 Out-of-character (OOC) chat must not be used in system or local chat. OOC communication in group or private chat between players will cease if one player requests it. Admins are free to communicate with any player at any time.
3.5 Names of new characters should be set up with role-playing nature of our server in mind. This means that:
- Names with excessive use of random symbols, capital letters, numbers, symbols, leet speak, emoticons should not be used.
Consequences:
A name not fit for a roleplaying server. Inappropriate sexual language in chat. Banned for 7 days.

Initialling BJ in chat.
Was in character answering questions from new guys asking questions out of character in sys chat. Was helping new guys in Liberty while killing time and someone took what I said the wrong way.

Ok I re-read the rules for the millionth time and found this in naming conventions added thread:
- Names with excessive use of random symbols, capital letters, numbers, sybmols, leet speak, emoticons should not be used. Player is warned by administrators if such name is spotted, and given a chance for a volunteer name change (standard rules for name changes apply) within 1 week. If no name change request is posted, character name is changed by admins.
I didn't recieve any warning, straight to 7-day ban. Since this is my first offense with naming a character 'inappropriately' don't I get the warning?
And chatting to my buddy Ben James Eads, BJ, in sys chat doesn't break any rules. A player commented to me when I made the statement and I didn't respond just let it go. Be nice if people tried to understand a situation before jumping to sanction conclusions.

You should change the name of the offending character once your ban is up. Consider that your warning for the naming violation.
Your ban is for your inappropriate sexual language.
Your disingenuous attempt to pass of what was a pretty explicit sexual reference as something else doesn't do you any favours.

I do have a best buddy nicknamed BJ, who's name is in fact is Ben James Eads, check out www.beneadsfiction.com if you don't believe me. And indeed he does play on this server and was in game at the time.
I'm not trying to piss you off or get over on any rules as I understand why they are in place, but I will stand up for myself when I feel I'm wronged. How bout deleting my character and lesson learned, or some other form of sanction. Straight to long term ban without warning is pretty harsh. I learn pretty quick and as I mentioned in PM I apologize for saying something that offened anyone G rated. I would never cuss or be a a straight out jerk as that is not my nature. I have prided myself on Discovery RP 24/7 on helping new players to what FL, and esp Discovery mod, is, and to get a start as that is how I was treated. I have given millions of dollars and lots of time to many new players helping them get setup and knowledgeable how to compete on this very competitve server, hoping to promote this great mod on this fantastic game. This stuff goes unseen as it is never reported. Untold countless times I have done this in the short time I have been a part of this server. Only to get slammed for a minor infraction without a warning, except for the player in the system at the time who said "not in main chat", which I respected and after that made no further comments.
I only ask for a wholistic view to myself and my characters, as it seems I am getting a very one sided and negative one that doesn't come close to grasping the kind of person or gamer I am.

When we process reports we don't get to see what kind of person you are because we can't. We go on what people report. Sanctions get processed based on the evidence.
This is an open server. We have minors playing here. We have responsibilities. Let's be clear on this - you made a reference to fellating someone to get a character reputation in order. It's not the kind of reference that is appreciated here. And i shudder to think at what reasoning prompts you think you can get away with something here that you most likely wouldn't say to a stranger in real life. You are still trying to pass it off as being a reference to some friend whose initials include B and J and your attempts are unconvincing, disingenuous and simply not true.
The rule on character naming is pretty straightforward, but you ignored it. Add that to what is a pretty clear sexual reference in system chat, you get 7 days off the server. That's hardly a long-term ban.

Aparently the end of my post didn't make it, I will recall what I can so I can finish my thought.
I am only a simply Web Developer and not a heavy programmer or modder, but I am a gamer, and have been since Atari 2600, and always will be. I appreciate good gaming competion and the spirit of roleplay and know that I meant no offense by any action as at most it was in good humor if nothing else.
I thank you for your time and consideration with this and looking at me and my characters in the depth they deserve as I pride myself on being a fair play gamer and a force to be reconged with, on any mod, on any game.

24hr ban would be modest...a week is a bit overboard imo. Who wouldn't make a simple reference like that in RL? Really? I am a guy, and one who served in the military, so that is extremely mild compared to what my ears have heard on a daily bases. I appreciate the G ratedness of the server, as I stateted earlier.
I have young nieces and children in my family as well, who play games. I hardly doubt they would catch the reference let alone have a prob with it.
I digress however as I have said my piece. I only hope to promote and make this server better by my presence, it is up to you admins to take these actions as a whole and act. I wish there was a way to make it less one sided reporting however. Know also that if I had any inclination that I had offended anyone, had someone said 'that was inappropriate', etc be assured that I would have apologized right there and then and settled this. Some ppl do however seem to take advantage of this reporting system and enjoy causing problems in a meak and anonymous way. Rules are strict in the service and are the same accross the board....kids who are tattlers however break another rule, as any good father would teach them.
If someone has a prob with someone esle, say hey I got a prob with you. 99% of the time it is resolved right there. Two warriors part going seperate ways.

Couple of things on this:
While some of our rulings in game and in enforcement may seem capricious, we (the admin team) actually have a list of standardized punishments that we can refer to, just as a regular judge in a court of law has his sentencing guidelines. You drop an explicit sexual reference in system chat, you get 7 days. You drop severe cursing, you get 14 days. You drop REALLY serious cursing, you can be permanently banned from playing here - even on the first offense.
We really don't care what you do in your real life and away from here, or have done in your past. Quite frankly, if you are as experienced as you claim, you should easily be able to role-play and act on the stage that is Sirius with a bit more elan and skill than you have demonstrated. As prior service, you also know that when you've received administrative punishment, just suck it up and soldier on. We're NOT being personal when we give this to you. We could care less if you're a 40 year old man or a 15 year kid - either is going to recieve the same punishment for violating OUR rules.
And that last is the key thing - these are OUR rules, Igiss has entrusted US as the Admins to enforce them, and we do so. You may not like it when we do, but then again - it's not like they're that hard to follow.
(For what it's worth, based on what you've said, there multiple members of the admin team that are your age or older. Including me - and trust me, I'm not happy with your specific comment. This isn't a factory floor, this isn't a military base, this is a game for all ages and both genders. Think about how much fun your life could be in if that person behind the character you were talking to was a 14 year old girl - because it IS possible for these comments to be taken out of context - and she then complained to law enforcement that you were propositioning her.)
