What ever limit your DirectX settings are set at. Normally thats 60.

60 is the optimal, native Freelancer fps. Don't listen to these fools, they haven't heard of Vsync.:P

Try full screen mode next time. Windowed mode is different.
And it depends on your DirectX settings. If your Graphics drivers has disabled the setting for Vsync, then it goes at whatever fps your card can manage. If your graphics drivers hasn't disabled the setting for Vsync, it will go at the max refresh rate your screen runs at, normally 60 Hz for a LCD screen.

I regularly get 160 or so on my slightly overclocked XFX GeForce 7600GT.

It could easily go higher, but it seems capped for some odd reason.

(Vsync forced off, monitor running fastest refresh it can (75hz))

Intel Core™2 Quad CPU Q8300 @ 2.50GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.5GHz
4096MB RAM
2 coupled ATI Radeon HD 4650 overclocked (total perfomance 3,2gb) <- yes i need this performance xD i like video and picture editing

With:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_rtm.090713-1255)

1600x1200 @ fullscreen
my video driver makes 32xAA (attention: wrong settings = transparent planets xD) and i have 190-250 frames^^

I just reinstalled fraps, and at 800x600x16, i'm getting 165 FPS, recording at 50.
