General Movement of Ships - Clyde - 03-10-2010 I had this Idea a while ago when I still was flying a Behemoth but with the new version coming up (and me having and forum account now), I would like to suggest it. Not knowing whether this is balance related or not, I have posted it here in Discovery Mod General Discussion. Suggestion: Option a: How about the possibility that you can steer your ship with the keyboard while being in turret view? I have seen that in other games and it is really nice. (I know that you can assign keys to divers movements, but none of them work while you are in turret view.) Option b (fall back): If that does not work, what at least about effect that you have when changing into rear view. Your ship continues the steering adjustments that you were doing before. That would be enough if option a. does not work. Effects: a.: More realism, because a big ship has a crew bigger than one and why should you always look forward while directing your ship. b.: It would make traders and miners a slightly more difficult pray, as for cap ships. At least it would take the disadvantage that you can only move straight ahead while defending. Now, how do you like it? Safe flights to all of you. Clyde General Movement of Ships - Zeela - 03-10-2010 Hello, this idea is around since FL was released but its impossible to do without rewritting core functions of game, it is design flaw and cannot be redone by any mod. It is part of character control state machine and probably part of main core loop so to change it, would require complete source of freelancer and redesign+rewrite it. Thats for normal way, it might be possible to write program that would intrude freelancer process while it is runing and would reinterpret commands the way you like, but it would be opening doors for more serious cheating. Zee General Movement of Ships - Clyde - 03-10-2010 Ah, I see.... what a shame. Thank you Zeela. General Movement of Ships - Varok - 03-10-2010 ' Wrote:b.: Caps are not allowed to fire on transport class vessels, at least not "indie" caps. A official faction tagged cap ship can kill a transport with a very good reason. Also cap ships can kill a transport just in Guard system (this applies of "indie" caps too). General Movement of Ships - Zeb Harley - 03-10-2010 You can fly maneuvres while in rear-view: Just let go of the key once in a while and press it again instantly. If your target got out of sight to left or right, this action will turn your ship in a way that you can continue shooting at the target again. If your target moves down or up out of sight you have move your sights into the opposite direction before you let-go-hold-again your rear-view-key. Takes a little practise but makes especially bomber pilots a little fuzzy because most of them don't like much continuous curtain fire into their general direction while they are unable to get a clear aim with their big gun. Takes a little practise. Works great on ships like the Mammoth, which can have five rear-firing type four turrets along with it's tiny silhouette. General Movement of Ships - Blaze - 03-11-2010 As zeb said you can continue your way of motion in reverse view but in turret view you can go only in forward direction General Movement of Ships - jxie93 - 03-11-2010 See this video. Capital turret view turning please. General Movement of Ships - Zeb Harley - 03-11-2010 ' Wrote:See this video. Looks nice, doesn't it? Seen it before, but if we can't have it we can't have it. That function would also turn the balancing around since you could continue shooting at your opponent while having passed him on a joust. The X-Shuttle has three class 5 rear-turrets, for example. Not that I would mind that. Not at all. General Movement of Ships - jxie93 - 03-11-2010 ' Wrote:Looks nice, doesn't it? Seen it before, but if we can't have it we can't have it. Not that I would mind that. Not at all. It would not only turn balancing around, it would also reshape the world of PVP on Disco. I guess the only way to find out how is the try it and keep improving it until it is perfect, remember we are constantly thinking of ideas to improve the mod. I strongly support the mechanics in the video of my previous post. General Movement of Ships - Aaronny - 03-12-2010 Yah that would be nice, and caps would be stronger wich would be good thing, I mean nowdays you see a big freaking battleships and you know it's just not a problem cause they'r uselessly suck... |
