Oh god...This game is going to be so bad... I mean, it's good that they decided to bring back the cops and whatnot but I bet that it will just suck. At best it will be yet another bland piece of garbage and at worst it will have the problems of both racing games and MMOs. Meaning bugs, lag and crappy controls.

I think from reading it the way it is going to work to minimize lag
is the only time you interact with players,if not in some party scheme,
is when you race. If your doing like free-roam it probably could have
an option where you can be alone or join the free roam world with players.
Least thats what I'd do to make it easier.
If you only see players in races that drops lag pretty drastically.

I like the idea of an MMO driving game. Very original. EA just need to get some decent servers running so I wouldn't mind paying a small fee for this game if they would give us better service.

"Lag Free Servers" exist actually, make a dedi in your house, join, bam, no lag (Unless someone is downloading). :D
Lag is mostly client-side/distance rather then the actual server. Or in some cases *Cough* AA3 *Cough* its both because of poor optimization or in others, not so hot hardware.

Also lag free is possible, you just need people with DECENT(i'm talking 1mbit) upload hosting, which is very rare.

Will be ran on a full dedicated server structure from what info on Destructoid's Preview shows.
Explore Mode is where everyone interacts.
Everyone drives in one big open world hopefully on one big server like EVE and not a bunch of separate ones like Warhammer, WoW and the likes.
Races however are instanced.
Everything can be earned with in game cash. With enough time, unlike other games where most of the good stuff is real money.
