Install help.. need fast help! - Ximen_Benitez - 09-06-2007

Ok so my friend asked me to come over here and help him fix his freelancer game. So I came over and we couldn't figure out what was wrong, but lots of the files were messed up, so we decided to uninstall, then install freelancer to a new "fresh" folder, then switch FLMM over to that folder. So we uninstalled it, but now it wont re-install! When ever we try to run an install it gives us this:

"Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or a WriteProcessMemory request was completed."

And it doesn't install, so I have to go home and do homework, but he wants me to stay and help, so what do I do??

So instead of using the Windows uninstall utility. Actually physically delete each folder (C://Program Files/Microsoft Games/Freelancer, C://Program Files/Freelancer Mod Manager, and C://Program Files/Freelancer Account Manager if your using Korrds account manager). Then go into the Documents Folder and delete the Save Games folder for Freelancer.

Oh before deleting FLMM, restore the backups using that feature within FLMM itself.

Well i was on the phone with him when I read this, I told him to do what you said, and he did. He deleted the freelancer folders, deleted FAM, and uninstalled FLMM and the mod dictionary. And it still gives him the same error when he tries to install... I am so clueless, I don't even know what the error means..

"Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or a WriteProcessMemory request was completed."

I h8 that message 4ever.

What OS does he use? In situations like this I would first search the net. If you can't find an answer then one final choice that I see: Reformat and reinstall the OS. This sounds like some sort of corruption either in the OS, or maybe even on the freelancer cd itself. Other than that I dont know what to say.

I think it's XP. and im pretty sure he can't reformat... it's a family cpu.

Its a problem with the Windows Install program, probably. I know no way to fix it. Perhaps Mr. Korrd can help you.

May I sugets a test you should run. Lend your friend your copy of freelancer. If it installs correctly then you know that is is a problem with the disc (don't forget discs can still be dammaged beyond use even if there are no scratches) if not it is a serious problem with the computer.

If so a few simple task that may help would be to clean the CD drive lense using appropriate products and the basic defrag, disc cleanup, online virus scan etc.

these are just a few ideas to try before inspecting other worse problems.
