Leviathan class Supertanker - mohr - 09-07-2007 This is the place to post comments, suggestions, and anything else that has to do with the Leviathan class Supertanker and its development. Status: incomplete concept The ship is planned to be a Cruiser to Battleship (maybe larger depending on response) sized transport. It will be very bulky; this is to make navigation through anything but open space and trade lanes near impossible. It will have no afterburners and a sloooow cruise start up. It will have few (1-3) weapons if any; this will require an escourt for dangerous trips. It will have simple transport class shields; no cruiser/gunboat shields even though it is larger. The hold will be very large, larger that a large train. This is going to be a highly risky transport to pilot; less hull/shield than befitting its size (maybe less than a large train), little or no self defense, a huge size/target, it will handle like a brick in cement, and there is little help for an escape b/c of the slow cruise power up and no afterburners. It does have one huge benefit; the hold size. This is a concept ship I am working on after the Kusari Bomber is done (by the end of today). It is an idea to try and promote trade lane trade routes and escourting. This will be a pirates and truckers fantasy at the same time. Well that's the idea... What do you think? I am open to any and all suggestion on ways to improve the design of the model and the ships concept. Please post. Your assistance is apreciated and somewhat needed. I don't fly these things enough to be considered an expert. Requests for new ships are not to be put in this thread, please PM me, however, I can make no promises; I am busy w/ real life and stuff (that is the cause for my long absense previously). Thank you ahead of time, and please enjoy. Mohr Leviathan class Supertanker - Drake - 09-07-2007 Oh yes, an excellent idea. Probably not something I would personally fly, but you never know. I'd say make it the size of a large, chunky cruiser. That'll make it pretty tough (though possibly not impossible) to maneuver through asteroid fields and such things. Something like a Behemoth but much, much bigger. Just don't make it one of those ships that has trouble undocking from planets. My vote goes to no weapons. If it isn't going to have enough to be worthwhile, why bother with them? That's what escorts are for. Not even a CM. Give it a regular Class 7 Transport Shield slot, but it should have decent armor. Maybe equal or even better than a C-Tran. As slow as it is and with only average transport shields, this armor isn't going to save it unless it has an escort or two around. As far as hold size goes, it'll need to be major to make flying this hulk and paying the escorts worthwhile. Maybe around 8000. Just my opinions, take 'em or leave 'em. Leviathan class Supertanker - uspatriotsf - 09-07-2007 Maybe stick with the 6 transport turrets the L-Train has, a decent armour, and no CM. 8000 might be a bit extreme of a cargo hold. I was thinking more around 6000. And please try not to make it as ugly as the C-Trans. Leviathan class Supertanker - Denelo - 09-07-2007 Excellent idea, perfect. I'd say no weapons, but massively huge hold, at least twice as big as the L train's. Also should be reasonably sized... for example, if it's going to have a hold twice as big as the L train's, then I'd say it should hold 12 cargo pods. Also note that if you can base it on the L train, each pod holds about 750 cargo. Also, insanely slow turning. Maybe the agility of a BC, or even an agile BS. Leviathan class Supertanker - majkp - 09-07-2007 I am with Denelo on this one, no guns, and if possible, with mountable cargo pods so everyone could customize the colours. And make the maneuverability very slow, compared to slowest battleships. Speaking of cargo hold, 8000 really is a lot and it would be a great advantage and everybody would want to fly it. So what about making the hull/shield half the large train? And maybe even without bots/bats? To compensate the enormous (8000) cargo hold. Then it would really be a fat lure for pirates and escorts would be necesarry... Oh and it would have to cost a lot, like 100 mils or so... Leviathan class Supertanker - Panzer - 09-07-2007 All for it. Vaporlinks a longer time ago posted a pic of a Rheinland large transport. Somthing of its layout would imo look well in a behemothi-ish role. Leviathan class Supertanker - Denelo - 09-07-2007 No, I think it'd be better as more of a battleship-shaped, though slightly smaller, vessel carrying cargo containers. That super-transport was shaped more like a GB, and meant to be a RH version of the L Train, I think. Leviathan class Supertanker - Victor - 09-07-2007 Oh, this could get alot more interresting. Great Idea. A fat payout for pirates, and at the same time more work for Bounty Hunters and Mercs alike...:D Give it no guns and an average hull and shield... I think a CM dropper is still needed (and bots, but no shield bats). Leviathan class Supertanker - Eppy - 09-07-2007 I'd go with a straight ten-thousand hold. For something that size, to pay for escorts, it needs to be big. I say four guns, class seven shield, Countermeasures. All ships have them, and they take up little to no space. As long as the cruise period gets longer, that shouldn't matter. Leviathan class Supertanker - Panzer - 09-07-2007 Eek, 10 000 cargo hold That beats NS mod's best freighters by 3 000 The price of this baby should be a bit high... to make it rare and not repeat the l. train's omnipresence. |
