Rules in the Welcome forum? - TankTarget - 09-13-2007 Well it seems the best place to put em...I mean honestly most new people post there. And we might as well put them in any place that seems any bit relevant. But it would ensure that the people posting would see the rules. And you know when you make a new forums account you have to accept the terms of usage. Change that to the Discovery server rules or put a link to them in big bold letters there. It would make them very easy to see and read. Rules in the Welcome forum? - Razr - 09-13-2007 secondly.... Instead of selling the certificate with the rules on Malta wouldn't it make alot more sense if it were sold on Manhattan? I mean it is the first place everyone sees. Rules in the Welcome forum? - TankTarget - 09-13-2007 Good idea Razr, and perhaps to expand on that (this has been suggested a million times and I get the distinct feeling that it will be implemented). Replace the welcome to discovery with the RP server rules. It should help keep people following the rules. Rules in the Welcome forum? - Virus - 09-13-2007 I've already suggesting giving the rules their OWN section in Discovery, similar to Discovery Role-Playing, Discovery RP Server, Discovery PvP Server, Flood, Etc. Rules in the Welcome forum? - uspatriotsf - 09-13-2007 I agree, make the rules more CENTER STAGE if you know what I mean. For my part, I have been linking all new members to the rules thread anytime I see them introducing themselves on these forums. Another suggestion is when the Console in game says read the rules at discoverygc.com/forums maybe it should really say "Please read the rules at the following url: http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4040" Just a thought. Rules in the Welcome forum? - majkp - 09-13-2007 I made a pinned guide-post for the newcomers in the Welcome forum: http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7093 I'd appreciate every suggestion what and in what order should be in that thread. I will then update it and add your ideas... Good idea, I would also suggest making a shortcut URL-rewrite to rules for less hassle, say http://discoverygc.com/rules/, it's easy to make since the server is running apache webserver, a very simple rewrite rule in config will do the job nicely. Or make it a page with several links to various rules, plus some introduction to the server helping people to get used to with both Freelancer server and forums with links to important topics. Rules in the Welcome forum? - Victor - 09-13-2007 I remember (when becoming a new member myself) I had to give my email adress... or something. If not, maybe it should. Make a text field that has to be filled in and then when submitted, it sends an email to the new member's email adres, welcoming them (of course) and showing them the rules. I like the suggestion brought up by Virus, as well... Rules in the Welcome forum? - Igiss - 09-13-2007 Easy rewrite rule? Well, I have no idea how to do this, besides, got no access to apache configs here. For me, it would be easier to create one html doc with the rules and put it in the place where your link leads. Rules in the Welcome forum? - Treewyrm - 09-13-2007 ' Wrote:Easy rewrite rule? Well, I have no idea how to do this, besides, got no access to apache configs here. For me, it would be easier to create one html doc with the rules and put it in the place where your link leads. In that case (no access to apache configs) a simple html page will do, in fact I think it's better this way since you can put severals links to rules and some other important forum topics. Some introduction-type, like those "first time launch" pages you see in most applications these days. I'm sure it'll help. I can make xhtml-compilant page with fancy images and such if you provide me links/text. Discovery has grown up to complex game server with it's own set of rules, a lot which might be very uncommon to players new to Disco, perhaps some sort of page with brief explanation would do with links to rules and major factions (for people to choose if they want to join one). |
