RP Syntax - Unseelie - 09-13-2007 Much of the RP stories on this Forum are huge, sprawling posts, posts which i find difficult to sit and read through. I was wondering, why such huge story arcs? I have been posting my RP in short snippets, all the same storyline, but in a format I find easier to digest.... So, does anyone else find the page long RP posts difficult to read? RP Syntax - Maranzo - 09-13-2007 Yeah I agree, tough I like to write huge RP stories myself. Many people won't read anyway cause of the large wall of tekst RP Syntax - Unseelie - 09-13-2007 and that's sort of my point...huge walls of text are intimidating.... and, do you write all that story at once, or built it in notepad over a while, and then paste it all into the forum? why can't you post paragraph at a time? will let people digest your work easily. RP Syntax - Dab - 09-13-2007 The length of posts are usually dependant on the amount of detail put into it. For example; Kane uses less specific detail, though its quite enough. His posts are usually shorter, or contain more of the story per post than mine, because I go into a ton of detail (some say too much..) But no matter what, big RP stories are going to have big posts. Ghosts of the Past, The Search for Drake, Beginning of the End, and that one about the SA admiral (forgot name) are all big RP stories, and as such, they have big posts. Otherwise, it would be just a ton of smaller posts. For example; Ghosts of the Past has ALOT of big posts. If we had alot of smaller ones, it would be roughly 150 some posts, rather than the 75 or so it has. RP Syntax - Unseelie - 09-13-2007 and...I'm arguing that the 150 posts would be better. I'm not against huge stories, just against huge posts.... It hurts my brain. RP Syntax - bluntpencil2001 - 09-13-2007 It's not the size of post that matters. You can have large posts that keep you engaged and interested... it's all about writing style and presentation. Overly long paragraphs and poor grammar annoy the hell out of people and make things hard to read, for instance. It's all about style. RP Syntax - MrSns - 09-14-2007 i try to keep mine to a sertan amount but try to put all the important stuff in. RP Syntax - caylith - 09-14-2007 I prefer RP stories with dialogue. Dialogue does make the post look longer but it engages the reader more than just 4 huge paragraphs. You get a better feel for the characters if you can see what they're saying. The stories can be long but if they flow well you'll have read through it in no time. This is a great place to hone writing and grammar skills. Constructive criticism is best, not the 'that's way too long and I don't have the patience to read it.' RP Syntax - Malaclypse 666 - 09-14-2007 Those terrible "eyeball bleeders" (as Nightfall was fond of putting it) in the Veranda and Chapel Perilous usually come as a burst of ideas at one time. Thus, they are captured and posted at one time out of "whole cloth". I don't claim that my stories are directed to a broad audience. I do claim that they are thoughtful, tasteful, and that I'm obviously not looking to advance my "post count" by writing them. If I did as you suggested, there'd be a new post every day for a month per episode. I don't intend to change, either. (Not flamin'.. just trying to explain my methods/madness..) Mal RP Syntax - me_b_kevin - 09-14-2007 i am guilty of the really long stories, in fact mine are still going. but i tend to write mine in form of different events per post usually. i always sit down and write the post i'm doing all at once because once i start i can't stop. i get an idea of a event and start writing and make it up as i go so i never know how long it will be at the first. i don't hear much about people reading my story and get questioned ALOT ingame about "why'd you kill me?" or "what are you supposed to be?". those comments make me lean toward the fact that not a lot of people read them. |
