Dynamic bases and ownership - Reliant - 05-09-2010 I just want to know if it's possible to change the faction of a given base in-game without restarting the server. I know some other mods have that you can "destroy" all bases. They have a lifebar, when it empties, it renders useless, can't dock on it and it can't shoot. While in this "destroyed" state would it be possible to change the faction of the base to the player that did the most damage/lastshot's faction? I doubt it can, but if it could that would make systems thats at war with each other a bit more interesting, as the regions of influence changes. Dynamic bases and ownership - Elven - 05-09-2010 Only if you give it FFFFFFFFF HP. :P Dynamic bases and ownership - Mounteblanc - 05-10-2010 I'd rather give it X+Dab's Ego in numerical units HP. By that, I mean it would take something like ~100 Heavy Mortars to kill a base. But base killing causes far too many problems. It breaks stuff sometimes. Dynamic bases and ownership - Linkus - 05-10-2010 Bases are typically very well defended. Unfortunately, we can't replicate that well with a relatively full server. When the server is less full, you might find floating around hostile bases to be quite dangerous with all the NPCs. Dynamic bases and ownership - Harcourt.Fenton.Mudd - 05-11-2010 If this were added, bases would need a 360/3D peremiter of heavy wep platforms far enough out so that it would be impossible to sit and snipe the base at range. Freeworlds does changing base ownership, but they have no NPCs and basicly tended (when I was active there) to have everyone be green to everything, then they'd just change who owned a base based on weekly events (and if a ship was only sold there, anyone in the previous faction that had one would have to get rid of it, but taking a base could mean access to new ships, too) |
