A bunch of small problems... - AJBeast - 05-15-2010

Hey peeps. Recently my comp has been spazzing out all over the place, little by little. Sooo, I need healp.

First problem and the least important one is that my desktop always shows as a white, empty screen (excluding the icons and etc, ofc). When I check the Properties tab thingy tho, it shows as it should be. When I change it, it shows up properly. It never shows up properly when I first turn on the comp tho.

Second one is with my headset. The USB ports in my comp are messed up so most of the time anything I put in there doesn't work. Still, every once in a while, I managed to get that little blue light to light up and get the bloody thing to work. Well, yesterday the Microphone stopped working even with the headset properly plugged in and its software detecting it. Today, whenever I tried plugging it in, the "Start" menu and all the icons stopped working and the software won't boot up at all. I already tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it a couple of times, checked for registry errors and viruses but nothing showed up.

Anyone has any idea what these problems are and how I can fix them?

What system do you have, what graphic card ?

Do you use USB Mouse, and if so how does he behave ?

Running XP and a NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT .

I got an USB mouse and KB but those are plugged into the USB ports in the back and they work fine. It's just the ones in the front that aren't working properly.

For the start up blank screen. Try to reinstall Nvidia drivers, if those same driver do same problem, try to get older version than tell me the results.

For the other thing. Go to control panel, adminstrative tools - services

Tell me what does it says on Human Interface devices and on plug and play
(status and start-up type).

Before that do you maybe have USB drivers. For example, my two USB slots on the back work well, but one in the front don`t until I install driver USB2.0 from my motherboard CD.

And try pluging your mouse in front, to see if it will work

Do a fresh XP-Installation. If XP older than a year, it tends to make odd things.

But write down your Acount ID before inserting the CD and "type any key to boot from CD".

Sounds to me like your Windows s messed up. You can try to save it by cleaning unnecessary registry stuff with C cleaner etc, uninstall unused st uff, defraging the HD but it may not work as neat as a fresh winstall.

Ok, so I tried switching things around and guess what! The headset works perfectly fine on the USB ports out back and the mouse doesnt in the front ones. It's the ports that are messed up, not much to do about it ...

I'm currently working with the KB up front (seeing as it is the only thing that works properly in there) and the headset and KB out back.

check power supply too.
Often usb things going can mean that.

Yep, power supply AND USB drivers may be causing it.

First one means expenses, second one means time loss.
