Your in deep enemy territory, and you just escaped that bomber/fighter that tried to eliminate you.

Your safe for now, but your hull is getting bulked up. You shield is fully operative, but you wont take the risk.
What do you do? You send out a few Repair Drones. These things are an invention of the DSE company.

After used, these drones are disabled and becomes another piece of junk in the dead space.

Their function;

- To repair your hull up to a decent level for a runaway.
- Repairs ??? hull points each ??? sec/min. The drones will be disabled if shot at.
- Can only be used when in a non-combat situation, means no hostiles in the area.
- About the size of a mine. Fragile, any explosion will most likely disable the drone.

How they act; They heal you by simply floating in orbit of your vessel. Ofcourse, the movement of the vessel
Must be zero for it to not be disabled. After a short period of time the drone will turn away from the vessel
And disable itself.

As you might aswell run out of Shield Batteries, the same tech is used for this.
Rather than repairing, the Energy Drone is a homing 'mine' that when it hits its target,
It will unload a energy charge, causing positive damage to the shield, thus adding shield power.
Rather than recharging your shield over time/on impact, the Energy Drone will increase the shield recharge
Rate.

So, for the dummies, if the recharge rate of a shield was 2k per sec it would be increased by 1.5x for
A short period of time. The Energy Drone is cheaper than the Repair Drone.
The Energy Drone is the only drone that can be used in combat, but if you want it to have effect on you, slow
Speed is advised.

The Energy Drone was an invention of the DSE, as a part of the drone set.

Notes; All drones are dropped by tech similar to the CM, using the same hardpoints.
If this would be too hard when it gets to programming, try using mines that causes positive damage.

A gun deals negative damage, degrading the shield/hull.
Positive damage means the opposite, restoring the shield/hull.

If I'm not mistaken this would have the same problem of the repair lasers with that positive damage stuff

Then that idea could work, great oportunity for repair ships if it could be made so it heals nearby ships, potential abuse though and hard to code.

Repair guns are possible.
They work.

We don't use them.

Why?

Who knows.
The devs know they are in use on other servers though.

And I still can't figure out why we haven't got them in Disco. The reasons given so far don't match up. The only one that makes any kind of sense is "We don't plagarise" but that also doesn't make it's own sense.

Repair turrets cause a number of balancing issues. People already complain that armour upgrades make fights too long, now you want to give ships the ability to heal each other for little cost?

Besides, in what world does to make sense that shooting another ship repairs it?
