Allen McCoy - Marcus Lindberg - 06-02-2010 Allen McCoy was born into a very politically active family in New York in 781. His father at the time was an elected congressman for the California system. Raised in a manner in which democracy was treated as though a privilege, not a right, Allen began working for government office shortly after graduating. He shared many similarities with his parents, however he felt constantly pressured into treating democracy as a privilege. He was taught to not accept democracy, but rather work for it. This however had the opposite effect on him then what his parents intended, he began to treat democracy, free speech, and freedom in general as a right. When the Colony ships first arrived to Sirius in the early 800's, Sirius had just undergone the Nomad War and didn't trust the new arrivals, who were expecting a warmer welcome. During this time, Allen relocated to Bretonia where he began to campaign for these people rights to work, which was against the wishes of many Bretonians who felt they were taking up jobs meant for them, and not foreigners. He believed in the democratic process, and hoped that the Parliament would let the Colonials stay. Unfortunately, their rights (something which Allen considered God-given) were not recognized by the Monarchy, and they were expelled. Over time, Allen began to fund the new Colonial Republic's development in Tau 44. He held several fund-raisers and used in influence with his position in government in Liberty to raise the money which would eventually be invested in the people of the Colonial Republic, such as individual small businesses, homes, etc. He considered the Colonial Republic a true democratic institution, much like the Republic of Liberty. Unfortunately, with the recent increase of military influence within the government, Allen has stopped any fund-raising and support for the Colonial Republic, something he considered dear to his values, as he spent nearly half his life supporting. He was not ready to give up on the Colonial Republic however, and envisioned a day when it would become what it use to be once again. Holding confidential fund-raisers once again, Allen McCoy began to raise cash to fund the growing resistance, the Colonial Freedom Front in order restore the "God-given" rights which were once taken away by the Bretonian Monarchy, and now taken away by their own leaders. Allen McCoy was at one point also a member of the Liberty Navy as part of his government service and has been in combat against pirates and terrorists alike. He did not go career while in his time in the Navy however. |
