How about instead of carrying around an ID, change it to a Pilot. So instead of:
Pilot carrying this ID is a Lane Hacker, who :
It could instead say this:
This is a Lane Hacker Pilot, who :
On the plus side everyone can stop piloting their ship from the cargo hold. The downside would be.....oh yeah there is no downside.

I like the idea of having a mountable pilot/captain.
I am not opposed to use this mountable personification of my char as an ID, but I wouldn't mind if things stay as they are, either.
