New Coalition Shipline - cmfalconer - 06-06-2010 Throughout the long struggle in Sirius, Coalition ship design changed little until recently, when a slew of up-and-coming designers were churned out of Jiangxi's universities. The KSD series of fighters were heralded as the beginning of a new era for the Coalition and it's fighting arm, the SCRA. Heavily armored with a power output capable of firing the Coalition's finest weaponry, and a modular capability designed to facilitate easy repair, the Partisan, Insurgent, and the Revolution were to instill a sense of pride to the Coalition pilots, and fear in those they faced. This was not, unfortunately, the case. Design flaws were quickly found in the KSD series which proved to be obstacles Coalition pilots were hard-pressed to overcome. Huge profiles of the fighters gave even lackluster enemies the ability to inflict heavy damage to the Coalition ships. Tactics were developed to overcome as best they could these deficiencies, but it was clear that the Coalition would have to return to the drawing board. It was, once again, Premier Katz who stepped in to save the Coalition. Working with top engineers from the Coalition, Red Hessians, and throughout the Border Worlds, Katz took the lessons of the failed KSD series to heart. Working with the same modular design premise, Katz went a different route in ship design by utilizing speed and maneuverability over sheer mass and armor. The results have been phenomenal so far. The XKR-151 Series Coalition Fighters have taken design elements from the Borderworlds line, made famous in the Coalition by Eugen Weise's infamous Scimitar Red Devil, along with parts from the Hessians and current Coalition craft, to create the next evolution in Coalition fighters. The XKR-151-A, designated the Partisan Mk.II, leans heavily on the Eugen Weise's Red Devil Scimitar. The marriage of the Hessian's advanced power cores to the Borderworld's design gives the entire series ample power as well. The Partisan, while mainly used to train new recruits, is a very capable craft in it's own right, capable of speeding through combat zones and dishing out punishment while avoiding fire. The XKR-151B, designated Insurgent Mk.II, builds on the XKR Series modular design. Built as a Very-Heavy Fighter, the 151-B's design integrates new Coalition engine technology into the frame. Larger engines, with their own fusial chambers, add to the energy output of the entire ship. This gives the Insurgent the ability to mount a heavy hitting setup while still maintaining an unparalleled level of maneuverability. The XKR-151-D, designated the Revolution Mk.II, is the end of the XKR-151 Series. Incorporating the design elements of the 151-B Insurgent's engine array, the 151-D Revolution adds another ingenious Coalition creation, the RTD-1 "Ares" antimatter pod. This pod was specifically designed for the XKR-151 Series and is made for easy replacement in the event of battle damage while still capable of firing the heaviest weaponry in Sirius. The XKR-151 Series is currently in flight tests, with roll out expected within the next six months. From there, it will spread fear throughout Sirius, and the Red Dawn will rise. //Special thanks to arvg, Ashes, Treewyrm, frozen, and many others who all came together to create these ships. It was a struggle from the start, and many people poured their hearts into designing and building these models. NOTE: The texture is a bit off due to HardCMP I used to create the images. Not much, but it's noticeable. The in-game look of the ships is even better than the pictures show. New Coalition Shipline - Prysin - 06-06-2010 looks like a merge of a scimitar, guardian and something else its good though. But i still think the current ships, no matter how ugly they may be, looks meaner and more "sovjet" like in their simplicity New Coalition Shipline - Jinx - 06-06-2010 they re ok - not as inspired or exciting as the current ones for sure - but they appear to be quite solid in design and appearence. compared to other freelancer ships - they re a little bit too colourful ( or show too many insignia ) - for my taste, they re too much like planes - but then, i find it hard to beat the current ones in terms of looks. the heavy use of these stripes and insignia makes them look a little like propaganda ships rather than military warships - but maybe thats just my impression. anyway - its the coalition that needs to be satisfied with them. New Coalition Shipline - akka1000 - 06-06-2010 The LF and to an extent, the VHF just dont look good to me. All the extra details on the bomber pretty much negate that though. Its something to do with the wings. However, if the coalition like 'em, go for it. New Coalition Shipline - kalimero2 - 06-06-2010 New ship for "VIP" faction which already have plenty of unique ships? Why? Can't you give it to the unioners? They don't have own bomber or LF.. New Coalition Shipline - pieguy259 - 06-06-2010 These are meant to replace the current ships, not augment them. Stellar job. New Coalition Shipline - Linkus - 06-06-2010 Great job for removing the problems with the hitbox, whilst keeping a slim profile look to them. From a technical standpoint they are better, hitbox etc, but I really think they are just well..ugly. Not at all inspiring, very plain and just pretty damn boring. Along with a bad set of textures, they look ugly to me. It does look like you needed a solution to the coalition ship problem but couldn't either find the time or skill to do better. Can I ask if you intend to maybe update the line at a later date? It just seems a harsh but necessary change that ought to be updated later on. New Coalition Shipline - tansytansey - 06-06-2010 Everyone who wants to know why the Coalition Ships are being replaced is because the current models have been deemed 'unbalanceable' due to their size and shape. While I think the current coalition designs are better, they are not functional. These models are a more conventional shape and will be easier to balance. These ships belong to the Coalition, I think it should be up to them whether they think their ships need a replacement, no? If you're not in the coalition, don't bother saying "they don't need a replace, I think the current ones are better etc." because it's really not up to you. After all, they're the ones who fly them. New Coalition Shipline - schlurbi - 06-06-2010 Haha, looking at those you really should have taken Yue's Models back then. Maybe they were having Wings, but whatever, those were much better. New Coalition Shipline - Capt. Henry Morgan - 06-06-2010 I've seen in game screenshots of these. Trust me, they look much better than the above previews. They were taken from HardCMP, which has a way of making everything look bad. |
