Interestingly enough an idea of that being in the mod entered my head in english class at school. Rolling should technically be possible.....

well, its not possible in game. and i m quite sure it can t be modded. the freelancer universe is not too three dimensional. there s allways a clear "ceiling" and a "bottom". ships just "roll" slightly when they do a sideways steering. thats it

Your just not doing it right! You have to press Z or R twice!

Rolls have been modded before, not here that i know of but it is possible. The problem though, is they serve no real purpose due to the flight style of freelancer.

I've wondered about those NPCs myself. They're spinning and rolling and doing all sorts of stuff that apparently isn't possible for players. Most spaceflight games I've seen have keys for rolling left/right, but Freelancer seems lacking.

Yes, it is possible.. For proof, look at Freeworlds. The have the Roll Left and Roll Right commands that you can set to buttons and use.
