PS3 Slim Vs. XBox 360 Elite - pragun - 06-11-2010 Hey guys, I'm thinking of getting myself a console to pass some time in these vacations, and I'm faced with this tiny little dilemma of which console to go for. I do have my opinions, which i'll share in a second, but I'd like to heard your personal opinions/experiences which could help me put my finger on one of the two. First of all, I'm not a very serious gamer. For me it's more of past-time. That said, I'll prolly be using the console to play a little on weekends, when I come home from college or during my vacations. Therefore, multimedia capabilities are a significant deciding factor, also swayed by the fact me and my family are rather fond of watching movies at home... Based on all that, I think that the PS3 Slim 120 Gb should be a better fit for me, seeing as it has built in WiFi, and more importantly, Blu-Ray support for movies. Anyways, I'd like to hear what you guys think... PS3 Slim Vs. XBox 360 Elite - bobby - 06-11-2010 If you find more use in the multimedia than the gaming, PS3 hands down. The 360 is more Family/child friendly, yet still caters for the more hardcore Gamer. Has more well known exclusive titles, not that it means anything:P PS3 Slim Vs. XBox 360 Elite - 13CentKiller - 06-11-2010 Choose the PS3. Xbox sucks. PS3 Slim Vs. XBox 360 Elite - AJBeast - 06-11-2010 If you're a part-time gamer and aren't that interested in playing online, get a PS3. If you're a hardcore gamer who likes playing shooters online, get a 360. I'm not even putting blu-ray into the equation 'cause ... Well, I can't burn blu-rays:P PS3 Slim Vs. XBox 360 Elite - Birdtalon - 06-11-2010 I have an Xbox 360. In my opinion, the consoles are pretty much equal. With Xbox having some better games, slightly better graphics and a better online system. But what really makes the PS3 superior for me is the fact that Online play is free. PS3 Slim Vs. XBox 360 Elite - Marburg - 06-11-2010 Get the PS3 the XBox is an inferior machine & once it's maxed out & everyone who owns a 360 has to go out & buy a brand new console, the playstation will take its place back atop the food chain again. The only real reasons that the XBox has slightly better graphics is because a) the cell engine in the ps3 is complicated & programmers are still figuring out how to work with it & b) for the time being, most ps3 games are just XBox ports. Though the smarter people in the room go for the ps3, & when you look back 2-3 years from now, you are going to want to have been one of 'em. PS3 Slim Vs. I already do. All my friends have PS3's. I don't play on the Xbox much anyway due to the lack of online play and the cost of the games. PS3 Slim Vs. I've also been doing some reading up and they say that the only reason the Xbox games have better graphics at the moment is because the developers haven't been able to utilise the full potential of the PS3 because of it's somewhat complicated architecture. And if you look at it, PS3 games are becoming better and better by the day. I played Killzone 2 at a friend's place and that thing looked beautiful... (so did COD: modern warfare 2 for that matter...) PS3 Slim Vs. XBox 360 Elite - Marburg - 06-11-2010 Another thing that's cool about the ps3 is that the bluray player as the power to upscale the res of regular plain 'ol DVD's also, you can play .avi files straight on w/o having to use a wma transcoder like the microsoft fans have to. PS3 Slim Vs. XBox 360 Elite - Carlos_Benitez - 06-11-2010 I have a PS3. I use it for the occasional game, a web browser when I cant be arsed getting out of bed, use it to watch DVDs and Blu Rays, and use it to watch Iplayer pretty much every night. As an all-round multimedia machine, i'd say the PS3 is the one to go for, and given that your family like watching movies, it looks like a no brainer. That being said, you cant get the most out of a PS3 without a HD TV of at least 28 inches screen size. Im not sure how much of a problem this is on an Xbox, but on a PS3, things like HUDs in games have been made to take up less and less space on the screen, which is great, but means that if you dont have a big screen, many games will be unplayable. My bro and I bought a PS3 to use with my parents' 26inch CRT. It was genuinely a painful experience to use. We ended up buying a 32 inch HD-1080p flatscreen to use it with, and once we did, the graphical experience was magnificent. Most people seem to have up-to-date HDTVs now, but if you don't, be prepared to be disappointed when you plug it in. PS3 also doesn't have backward compatability for PS2 games. However, it will play some PS1s, so it can be a fun tool to use to revisit afew old favourites from the last decade. I'm not sure about the XBox360's credentials in this regard, but the PS3 also has it's own Store where you can buy and download full games, new levels, wallpapers, mini-games, or old classics. There's also quite a bit of free content, including some of the above, game trailers, movie trailers, etc. all ported directly into your PS3. The PS3 doesnt seem to be to be great for multiplayer. I have no idea if it's technically less good for this stuff, it may be better, but it seems, in my experience, anyone who goes for online play buys an Xbox360, giving the Xbox360 a self-perpetuated stranglehold on that side of the market. I guess it's similar to how DiscoveryRP24/7 dominates Freelancer Multiplayer, because although something better could potentially come along, all the PEOPLE are over here, so here's where you wanna be. |
