No legal alternatives other than battle transports can hold true to the fire power the Pirate Transport possesses. The BWT is the closest, however, Behemoth and Big Dragon are also to be considered for their survivabilities.

If I wanted cargo hold I would get a train.
I'm looking of a mix of decent firepower, cargo (about 3k) and armor.
So far Salvager looks to be the best fit for me but I'm not sure I want to stink like a Junker.

Erhm.
There are ships, which we call Container Transports, mounting 12 transport turrets apiece. Though I'm in love with Bretonia, I suggest flying the Kusari version, as it has more interesting turret angles.
They do tend to miss the best feature of the P-Trans, the lovely CD.

BWT is nowhere near the P-trans in terms of firepower. It only has 4 forward facing guns, as does the Firefly.
Just for giggles, you could always use the yacht.
