Favourite Stargate Series - Asgardian - 07-19-2010 Lets see where our allegiances lie when we talk Stargate 1. The classic (and in my opinion the best - See Malrone's comm ID) Stargate SG1 - The quintessential evil enemy (Goa'uld) are to be stopped, its upto Colonel O'Neill and his team, their coolness offset by a socio-political nerd on the team. 2. Stargate Atlantis - Sheppard and his team do a fairly good job at stopping life-sucking creatures rampaging through the galaxies. That said, the "final" episode was a little rushed. Bring on the mini-movie! >:D 3. Stargate Universe - In my opinion, the soap opera of all the series, seemed to be too much about who was sleeping with who and not enough shooting. I haven't seen the latest episodes, but if its a continuation of what was already being show... Vote and tell what's your favourite episode while you're at it! (For the record, I cant choose my favourite XD) Favourite Stargate Series - Akura - 07-19-2010 Can't beat the classic. SG1 rocked harder because of the characters, I just didn't connect to any of the Atlantis or Universe ones as much as the original. Favourite Stargate Series - Marburg - 07-19-2010 Personally, I think SG1 & SGA are crap...but that's because I was already an adult by the time SG1 first aired & I demanded alot more quality for my TV watching time by then. Let me clarify: I'm as big a sci-fi geek as the next guy, but for example...I love ST:TNG, but if I were to watch it for the first time today instead of the time when I was wowed by just about everything, I'd think that ST was a cheap piece of crap too. Not because it's dated, but because of the poor production values & cardboard acting...& if I were born later than I was, I'd probably be a SG fanboy too TNG (& DS9) are forgiven of all their flaws because at the time they came out I was enthralled enough to overlook all the shows flaws & fall in love with the characters to the point where I could on one level or another enjoy even the worst episodes. Not so with the 1st two SG's...I simply could not be entertained by it because it had nothing to offer that I haven't already seen before, outside of just different names, faces & places. SGU however is not only tolerable, but once I trudged my way through the 1st half of the season, it became likable because it (imho) started to gain legs from an adult perspective that the other two shows never could. Sure, it's essentially an SG version of BSG, but I'm cool with that because BSG raised the bar for sci-fi across the board. BSG was created for an adult audience & deals out the type of deep drama that goes over the heads of many of sci-fi's target demographic. What BSG & SGU (& Caprica for that matter) have going for it is that they are dramas that just happen to take place in a sci-fi setting & their baseline stories could be just as compelling if those same stories were told in a non-sci-fi environment. ::edit- one thing I will say that's complementary to SG1 is that I got a huge kick out of watching the episode "Threads" because of its inside tribute to the show "Dead Like Me" (which is one of my all-time faves) by having a scene in 'Der Waffle Haus' where the grim reapers in that show always had breakfast every morning while receiving their post-it note reaps for the day that was always given out by the head boss death-bringer:: Favourite Stargate Series - teschy - 07-19-2010 SG-1 by far. Marburg, did you watch all ten seasons? Favourite Stargate Series - Marburg - 07-19-2010 oh hell no! Why would I do a crazy thing like that? I wasted enough time already by watching seasons 1 & 2 on DVD. You know what they say about how insanity is defined: "repeating the same actions all the while expecting different results" Granted...I AM crazy at the root:crazy:...that's why I gave the entire 1st season of SGA an honest shot at the time; only to be burned by its near identical craptacular presentation Favourite Stargate Series - Not Espi - 07-19-2010 the movie. sit down:D Favourite Stargate Series - Jansen - 07-19-2010 Atlantis was cool, the normal SG1 just went boring after a while, while Universe was boring from the begining... Favourite Stargate Series - Chev - 07-19-2010 I hate SG... I don't know... just doesn't like it at all. I tried to watch it several times, but it was too boring for me. Same as Star Trek, I didn't liked any season I saw. The only sci-fi series I liked was (and still IS) Battlestar Galactica (new ones). I don't like all these "many aliens" stuffs, only sub-realistic science fiction. But I'm giving my point to Atlantis, it was the only SG I could watch so long (about 10 chapters maybe) Favourite Stargate Series - teschy - 07-19-2010 ' Wrote:oh hell no! Well you really cannot compare Universe that has only one season so far, with SG-1 that had 10 seasons of epic awesomeness. You just can't, SG-1 didn't last 10 seasons for nothing. It kept going and going, and improving. Universe is something different. I watched the entire season, and I liked it, despite the crappy drama in several episodes. It doesn't make it lesser than SG-1, because it's just something else. SG-1 was about galaxy exploration, mysteries, technology, fighting aliens and team unity. Universe is much darker, oriented on the conflicts between the crew on the ship, interactions between the characters - military and civilian alike. Both are tense, but in different ways. Stargate is the only true sci-fi brand that I like. Because it's so close to our present, it's really provocative. That's why I also like Freelancer, because it's not extremely far in the future, and still retains bits of our modern culture. Favourite Stargate Series - darkxy - 07-19-2010 Atlantis ftw !! |
