Crippled Honor - Ryummel - 08-09-2010 "Monsieur Giroux? Eh, eh... Can you hear me?" Aubert opened his eyes slowly. The first thing he saw was a flashlight. A nurse on her middle 30's was holding it. Aubert tried to raise his head, but he felt pain around the neck, forcing Aubert to keep lying in the gurney. "Where... am I?" "Monsieur Giroux! I'm glad to see you can speak!" The nurse put away the flashlight. "You're in Dijon, safe." Aubert tried to move the head, but he always felt pain. He also noticed that he couldn't move any part of his body. He was sedated. "Oh, I think you'd feel hungry. Don't worry monsieur Giroux! I'll bring you some food after the sedation effects have passed." Aubert nodded slowly. The nurse smiled and walked out the room. Crippled Honor - Ryummel - 08-10-2010 Aubert stared at the ceiling for hours. From time to time, the nurse came into the room to check Aubert's vital signs on a monitor. He could feel how the sedation effects were disappearing. Finally, Aubert could raise his head without feeling any pain: His left arm was totally crippled (It was in plaster). He also had some medical (or similar) devices attached to both legs. He only could move his right arm properly. Then, he glanced around the room: Monitors, medical machines, instrument trays... The typical furniture everyone could find around a hospital. He noticed another hospital bed on his left. A man was lying on it, without moving any muscle. Aubert sighed, wondering about how he reached this room, onboard the medical bay in Dijon Station. The nurse walked into the room again, smiling at Aubert while checking the other man. "Oh! Nice to see you're partly recovered, monsieur Giroux!" "What happened? A Maquis bastard ambushed me, maybe? Nah... That's irrelevant!" Aubert tried to raise his crippled arm, but the feeling of pain overwhelmed him. "Monsieur Giroux! you need to rest until your wounds have healed! Eh... Give me a moment, I'll bring you the dinner soon!" She approached Aubert, helping him to lean back. "You were severly injured, monsieur Giroux! But now you look much better!" "Oh... Ah... So... What about my ship...? Is 'she' docked here?" The nurse stopped smiling. She spoke in serious tone. "Monsieur Giroux... Your fighter ship... Well, I think this image speaks the current situation..." She took a datapad and showed Aubert a screenshot. 'Monsieur Gi'¦ OH! What's happening!?' The heart-beat monitor beeped loudly. Aubert was suffering violent spasms. A doctor walked into the run quickly. Everything went black. Crippled Honor - Ryummel - 08-10-2010 'Lieutenant? Come on, wake up'¦' Aubert opened his eyes slowly. He could notice a blurry figure next to him, so he flickered a few times. 'Your clinical record is worrying me, Giroux. Internal bleeding, left arm totally crippled'¦ Now a heart-attack. Don't worry, those bio-implants work fine, but you'll extend your stay here.' Aubert looked tired. 'It's a joke, isn't it? Where's my Lynx, doctor? Where is it!?' His face was red. The doctor sat in a chair. 'Giroux, you've developed an irrational link towards an object! You lost your fighter ship, but you're alive'¦!' The doctor was interrupted because Aubert bursted into tears. 'An object!? Mon Dieu! I'd cut your tongue right now! You don't understand the situation'¦!' Aubert babbled. 'Oh, monsieur Giroux! I'm not an idiot! Just look at yourself! Falling in love with a fighter ship is'¦ is'¦ Stupid!' 'Non!' Aubert got up. He walked quickly in circles around the room. 'I lost my Lynx! A limited edition one! Do you know what that means, doctor? Six letters! C-O-U-G-A-R.' The doctor tried to calm Aubert. 'Giroux, lie down in your bed again, you must rest.' 'Non! Non! Non! I'll throw myself out of a window before flying a bomber ship!' Aubert kept walking in circles in a funny way. Meanwhile the doctor was trying to grab the non-crippled arm. 'Lieutenant, behave or I'll sedate you!' Aubert stopped. 'Oui, oui'¦ I'll rest'¦ But first I want my food ration. I'm paying taxes for a reason!'. Crippled Honor - Ryummel - 08-11-2010 'Dinner time, monsieur Giroux!' The nurse stepped into the room, carrying a food tray. 'Oh madame, where's my coffee?' Aubert grimaced. He didn't look very pleased. Even the military rations were better than the food served in the hospital. 'I already told you that the coffee is bad for your heart!' 'Then, I won't eat anything!' 'Oh, fine. Then I'll give it to monsieur Leborgne' The nurse approached the other bed, next to Aubert's. 'Madame, Capitaine Leborgne was put into an induced coma!' The nurse sighed. 'At least he's a quiet man!' 'Well'¦ Well'¦ I'll behave'¦' Aubert took the food tray. 'Monsieur Giroux'¦ Do you have any relative around Planet Nevers? Maybe around Gap Station?' The nurse tried to smile, but she seemed annoyed. 'Hmm'¦ I've spent 4 days here'¦ Non, I think my parents wouldn't move from the Core Worlds'¦' Aubert grimaced while eating. 'Ah'¦ Huh'¦ And what about your buddies in the Royal Navy?' Aubert shrugged. 'Well'¦ I know about a few names but'¦ Heh'¦' After Aubert finished his meal, the nurse took the tray and left the room. Crippled Honor - Ryummel - 08-15-2010 Aubert was reading the news in the holo-paper. The bio-implants were still working in the healing-process, so Aubert couldn't do anything. 'Coffee'. That's what he needed. After having his dinner, Aubert got out of bed. "I'll be right back back, capitaine!" He said quietly to his 'roommate'. Then, he left the room, glancing around the corridor. Aubert smiled: He spotted the coffee machine down the corridor. He began to walk as fast as he could. Thirty meters, twenty meters... fifteen meters... "Monsieur Giroux! What are you doing here!? Come here, NOW!" Aubert recognized the voice of the nurse. She was running towards him. "Not now! Not now!" He thought. Suddenly, Aubert yelled: "COUNCIL TERRORIST ON YOUR SIX, MADAME!" As he expected, the nurse was idiot enough to look at the opposite way, so Aubert could reach the coffee machine successfully. "Oh, Mon Dieu! Come on, stupid machine!" He smashed the coffee machine, but the coffee cup didn't appear. He felt a sharp pain... He was sedated. Everything went black, again. |
