I was playing another Freelancer mod, and something occurred to me.

You can change the names of the existing ship classes (Light Fighter, Heavy Fighter, etc.)

We have rules about who can use what ship class, but all the restricted ones fall under "freighter" in-game, whether transport or warship.

So why not switch them? All the fighters and bombers get rolled into a general "Fighter" or "Fighter or Bomber" classification, Freighters are Freighters, Transports are Transports, and all capital ships are Warships.

This should help make things more clear for newbies so they can easily see the difference between a freighter and a transport. It won't do much for the ones who don't care about the rules, but it will make the rules more clear for those who do.

Makes sense, given that Bombers are classed as fighters within the rules anyway.

I do approve.

I do agree for all but one part. All capital ships, how about capital ships, and gunboats. Imo a gunboat is of a much lesser class of a dreadnought.

I don't think you can have more than four ship classes. If you can, then by all means give each warship its own.

But I think you're limited to four types.

This is a good idea. There have been a few unfortunate folk who have ended up sanctioned because they were driving a "Freighter - BHG Battleship" and they quite rightly noted that their civilian ID said "is allowed Freighters".
