New Faction - dcmbubba - 11-16-2007

Me and a few others have been kicking around the idea of starting our own new faction...A collective group of independent traders, mercenaries, and such out to make some credits out of the Sirius Sector. Officially we plan to be a loosely organized group of independent fortune seekers from the order, the corsairs, and the zoners operating outside but not against the major house regulations. Specializing in merc and questionable but lucrative trade work. Our overall objective is to avoid house suspicion and keep a low profile but have strength in numbers to defend against pirate organizations that pray on lone traders in fringe systems or even engage in conflict when the price is right.

Allies: Corsairs, Zoners, The Order

Enemies: Bounty Hunters, Red Hessians, Outcasts and other pirates

Name ideas: Sirius Free Trade Guild (SFTG), Independent Trade Confederation (ITC), Brotherhood of Terra (BOT)...otherwise up for suggestions

Please post with any feedback

...This really reminds me of the FGS for some reason...

I like how you didn't try to make both sides of the war friendly, but protecting traders might set you in conflict with your "allies".

More of a story background would be nice, as well as some time in-server to learn how the existing factions interact.

Sorry mate, this kinda gets an YANF tag. It just sounds like you wish to make a random faction with a group a friends, I don't really see an RP bases to it.

(Off Topic: Wonder if I could make an YANF signature bar... *opens Photoshop*)

I also like how you didn't try to start with both sides friendly.. Too many people doing that nowadays. But you need an RP background before I can make any real opinions. Also, why allied to Zoners and Corsairs? Wouldn't it be better to be just friendly to at least the Corsairs, so as to decrease the relationship between you and the Corsairs from the house's view?

BTW, I'm leaning towards the ITC name. It would work good with ships too. Transports would be ITC-name or ITCT-name. Fighters would be like ITC-F-name, or ITCF-name. If you wanted ship class shown in the name of course.

One more question, what faction would you be aligned with, or will you be without faction tags?

@DBoy, I think he just kind of slapped this on forums to get feedback before putting alot of time into the RP background.. At least, I hope that was what he was doing..

Just framework for now...still pipedreaming

The Order doesn't really do much in the way of trading, smuggling, or mercenary work... Pretty much every member of the Order is dedicated to killing Nomads. So I don't think that the Order would work well as your tag, and I couldn't see them as an ally, but they could be on your friendly list if you do things like haul in supplies.

Corsair tag is only good if you plan on being shot by almost every character you encounter... Outcast, the vast majority of unlawful factions, almost all lawfuls... Again, they could be friendly if you hauled artifacts for them and brought them supplies, but probably not an ally or good tag material.

Zoner tag could work if you want to retain a veneer of lawful credibility. Combined with the Smuggler and Mercenary IDs, it could work. However, many 'true' Zoners frown on anyone with the Zoner tag who does things that might reflect poorly on the Zoner neutrality... Such as aligning with one particular side of the Corsair/Outcast war, or taking mercenary work against the Houses.

Junker is a possible choice... They're already only 'slightly' unlawful, pretty much everyone puts up with them (though a lot of factions, lawful and unlawful, aren't really fond of them, but they're useful). We already have two (I think) Junker factions, one group of 'true' Junkers, one group of Junker-aligned slavers and contraband smugglers.

However, as Dboy already pointed out, this really does sound like Yet Another New Faction. Unless you have some pretty unique ideas/RP, you might want to reconsider.

Of course, you could stay unofficial for the time being. You would be denied certain rights gained by factions (such as Angels recruitment, a possible home system, a few other things), but people wouldn't complain as much.

Group of Order, Corsair, and Zoner pilots attempting to act outside the suspicions of the houses? Well if you have Corsairs as members and are allied to the Corsairs you're already within the suspicions of the houses by default. Not to mention the fact that being partly the Order you also fall under huge scrutiny from Liberty.

Even these intent posts should give a pretty substantial amount of info about the proposed faction, so that the community can make an informed opinion about it.

Lots of good advice... like i said just something me and 2 other players dreamed up today after being brutally (and totally seperately) attacked by pirates on one run and Kusari navy on another for carrying high risk cargo where we shouldn't have been. Obviously we have details that need worked out. Pour on the advice if you have it to give

New Faction - Lohingren - 11-16-2007

please note lads this aint his final idea he did say "please post with any feedback" i personally dont think to shoot down the idea yet as he aint done anything particularly wrong as of yet true it does look like a faction made to kick off with a few friends, but friends working together can also take out alot of annoying things such as members being unfaithful, breaking rule's etc they can work on par alot better than one man creating a faction with stranger's.

i do agree it needs a little work i would say try and widen your background story get a nice PHEESABLE story to it please oh please dont pull of a warped from a galaxy far far away card, that one is just horrible.

and sort out your overall faction diplomacy this would be made easier if you figured out your faction allingment. but please oh please oh PLEASE DO NOT MAKE IT CORSAIR (i am not just saying this because im a oc leader but i find that there is to many corsair's and outcast faction's)

currently there is 3 of each on the corsair side: TBH (the brotherhood) LDDLG (whats this one stand for again? either way i dont think they are very active anymore) and Benitez (benitez)

Outcast side: 101st aka ghosts of razgriez, RoS (Reapers of Sirius), BLS (Blue lotus society)

get a good ship list. to do this you would need to figure out what side of the war your gonna be on (what faction your guys gonna be alligned with)

figure out your own personal way of RP. such as the way you speak the way you act etc. but this would also tie in with what faction you go with.

look up on the faction status post's and read up on all the current factions. keep your guys neutral and study all of they're behaviour and the like then kick the faction off (please not i am not telling you to make yourselves neutral to all just for the time being to let you get used to other faction's)

the do's and dont's on the server also such as ooc chat on system channel

(this would include smilie's i.e. :o), :oP, :o(. abbreviations i.e. lol, rofl, lmao ,u speaking of the GAME or talk like you are sitting infront of a computer playing a computer game.)

i would suggest keeping the mind set of you are flying the ship not playing a computer game

i would say zoner's would maybe work for you also but this would mean keeping a overall neutrality with all faction's. which would kind of throw the oc being enemy's out the window and i do not know if they can escort traders and attack hostile targets i am unsure on this one i am not such a zoner person myself as many will vouch for this statement

also i would say get together a few members before posting your status thread and pm our main man AC merc for a little bit of help on the overall status thread (sorry if i am throwing him the wrong way merc i will delete this part if i am wrong)

and note overall display of the status post is not utterly needed but presintation goes along way when it comes to making people want to join and respect you a little more

and on a final note id like to suggest playing on the server for 2 weeks MINIMUM id say a month would be more of the right time limit to get used to rule's see if you are actually able to pull it off and to as i said earlier study other factions and get into the RP way of things on this server

RP = biggest and most fundimental part of this server it is the main thing its more important than ANYTHING else i.e. getting this nice big shiny new ship, becoming uber pwnz0r at pvp, taking a pee at night (ok not quite this one but im sure you get my meaning)

thats all i have to say really, and as always i am open for disagreement from any of you other lad's

Lohingren Out

Zoners are great for not being bothered - one think I love about flying my Zoner is that I don't have to worry about being attacked except by the odd NPC and Nomads. You get to trade with Alpha and Gamma and everyone else; but I'd only pick the Zoner tag for you guys if you're primarily into trading. If you want more fighting, you might want a different tag.
