The chaingun nerf - alance - 11-16-2007 I was noticing that Purple Goddess and Wildfire chainguns are extremely power inefficient now, and doing less damage over time. These guns still require the pilot to put Nose-on-Target for quite a long time to deal significant damage, which makes you vulnerable to big-hitter class 10 guns. Does anyone else feel like these chainguns suck too much energy for their lower damage output? I'm failing to see any reason to use them now. The chaingun nerf - LancerZero - 11-16-2007 I agree. I used to use 'em because I liked them, but they're now less efficient than the other weapons available...when the firing rate was halved, did the damage get a corresponding increase? The chaingun nerf - sushi - 11-16-2007 Agreed. I don't mind the rate-of-fire cut, but I was hoping that they would do enough damage to still be worth using. They don't. I'm getting more damage output with less energy consumption using Level 9 guns. After the Solaris fell off the markets, the Purple Goddess became the only non-codename level 10 weapon available to civilians, freelancers, & Zoners. I had the chainguns mounted on my transports and i had to take them off. nowhere near as much damage for the refire cut. maybe up the damage by 25-35% and keep the refire at current figures (16.67 rps) and I might re-try them. The chaingun nerf - sinned-40 - 11-16-2007 I agree some kind of fix needed.. was flying my Big Transport and noticed rite off i cant eaven kill npc pirates effectivly now.:( The chaingun nerf - Jinx - 11-16-2007 in beta 2, the damage was doubled as the refire was halfed. the result was a devastating weapon. i don t know why - but a single purple goddess could tear a gunboat apart in seconds. ( shieldless, tested one PG on IMG gunboat, chainfire for like 5 seconds caused around 50% damage to the hull ) i don t know why that was like that - b ut all chainguns, wildfire, PG etc. had the same awesome damage output. thats why they are cut down now. edit: tested in a pvp situation - vs. NPCs the effect was less noticable. There was no sign of them in the vanilla Freelancer at all. some off topic here: I first came to Discovery version 4.81 (or 4.80) some time ago. At that time everyone was using the RH bomber and Solaris with 33.33 refire and crazy energy drain. I met the Homeworld battlecruiser (Outcast Destroyer now) sitting in front of NB, with I believe 14 of these Solaris weps. on. He taxed me 2mil (at a time when I had about 12) and said he can kill any BS in 20seconds. That experience(not alone by itself) made me leave discovery and not come back to try for 2 years. end of off topic If you want to keep them in some form, then they should be comparable with the other guns. That doesn't mean same energy efficiency. They are very difficult to evade and a Transport full fitted with them is pretty annoying to fight. So I think it's ok that they are less efficient. The chaingun nerf - RickJames - 11-16-2007 Well there is less efficient..as in not being able to take out a player cap ship in 20 seconds.:)Which I am all for. In the few tests I have run it takes most "player BS's" 20 seconds to just take out another "player BS's" shields. For a single fighter, bomber, or gunboat to be able to destroy a BS in 20 seconds with just guns..is really silly. And then there is almost totally worthless..as in cant take out a lone pirate npc fighter in 20 seconds.:)Which I am not all for. A fighter, bomber, gunboat with level 10 guns should be able to do that. Or I might just be totally clueless..it happens often. Hopefully there is a middle ground the developers can find. The new mod is great so far. Thank you to everyone who helps keep this place going. Thats a pretty big difference in effectiveness. |
