Something about IFF and droprep - Hawkins - 09-19-2010 Dear admins, I am a bit angry now about the IFF system. Why? So let me explain why: As you maybe know, I am a pretty new discovery player. At the beginning I even didn`t really realize the IFF thing, until someone told me I might change my Liberty Police IFF as freelancer, especially in Bretonia. During that time I had alot of cooperations and factions on status green, I had to do so many /dropreps that it went over my Newby Wallet. Thank to the nice player who showed me the IFF thing, i was able to pay it though, as he was very gentle and gave me enough credits to fix it. the all in all 4 million credits were pretty much for my I believe lvl 30 char or so. Well, what then sucked was, that every time some faction got a high reputation boost, i had to do it again and again. when my wallet finally was high enough I calmed a bit down, although it was still annoying. Still, often I forgot to check my IFF after log in, players to now always were gentle enough to remind me then. Until today. Yesterday I made escord service for a buddy and had to shoot alot of red hessian npc for that. Corsair to that moment were neutral but close to green. i didn`t realize how much my corsair stats rose when I logged out and today didn`t watch my stats when I logged in. Was in New york where I undocked to search for escord clients. Guy next to me suddentl posted:" Hey corsair! give me my money back, you own me 9 millions!" Befor I realized that he meant me, he already opened fire (tbh more lolP than RP, but okay). Was alot of navy arround me and I didn`t know how to RP explain, that I am no Corsair but freelancer. He was no big threat (Virage VHF, me in Conference gunboat) but well, shooting back to defend while Navy Ships sit next to you and you infact have this F*** Corsair IFF? fortunatly the Navy forced that guy to hold fire after I OORP(!) explained, that the IFF is an accident. But still the forced me aswell to leave the area.(Which again should be valued as a player defeat if I am right, means 4h not entering NY etc. etc...) I didn`t loose the ship, even if, that is not the case. This situation just had no sense of RP, mostly because of the crappy IFF thing. Crappy situation with not really RP value I think. and all just because of this IFF system. Why having an IFF, when already having a clear ID anyways? Especially for a Freelancer I think this system definetly sucks. Best regards, Hawkins Something about IFF and droprep - Mr.Fabulous - 09-19-2010 It's a buggy system, yes, but it's not that bad. How I deal with a problem like yours is to use the "multiple-bribe" technique. Say I want to have a Freelancer IFF, so I go to Barrier Gate Station to get the appropriate bribes. But you don't just use 1 bribe: there will, in fact come out multiple people in the bar that'll offer the same bribe when your neutral. So far, the highest number I've seen is 3-4 bribes in one visit. This multiple-bribe is used so that your Freelancer IFF (or any IFF for that matter) could become more permanent: the rep bar may appear at its highest with only bribes, but another one will increase it FURTHER, making sure that other reps won't be able to overtake your intended rep. Also, in the case that your IFF was mistaken, and that you got attacked, please don't lose your patience too easily. What was the ratio of lolplayers that attacked you on-sight when you had the wrong IFF compared to the "gentle" players that at least had the decency of OORP-asking you of your real IFF? One thing's for certain: know the limits that this game engine can handle, and love it, rather than trying to beat it like a dumb puppy that can't learn any new tricks. Sure, there are a lot of things that could be improved here, but who am I to complain when it's an old game we're talking about here? Don't just ragequit when the IFF screws you again: just shrug it off, learn from it, and then laugh about it with your friends. Something about IFF and droprep - Hawkins - 09-19-2010 Was not my intention to ragequit, and maybe my comment sounds more rage then it actually is, just...needed to write it after that unneccessary incident. also I am a bit confused...what counts more, the ID or the IFF? Asking this as for example in bretonia you aren`t allowed to scan people, so no ID Identification, while for example guys like the phantoms, which have phantom IFF and probably ID aswell about roleplay should not be identified as phantoms just on sight if I understood it correct (same for the wilds and kusari infected). Was this guy right to treat me as corsair cause I had the IFF or was it wrong?*totally confused* Something about IFF and droprep - Crackpunch - 09-20-2010 ' Wrote:Asking this as for example in bretonia you aren`t allowed to scan people, What? Scanners are there for a reason. I found IFF a little tricky when I first started too. You'll get used to it eventually, just be careful which NPC's you shoot, even if they're shooting at you. Something about IFF and droprep - Corsair - 09-20-2010 I'm in favor of lowering the /droprep price to make it easier on new players. Something about IFF and droprep - DukeValentino - 10-05-2010 Although this post is so old ... let me tell you a ... accident ... that happened a week ago. I went around to looking good in the Omega Sector, with my burden, when BEGINNING to be questioned about who I was ... and why I was there ... In short, so, out of nowhere ... I had been saddled a iff "the Council" ... But I had never visited Gallia neither of these people knew who he was Council (I was a newbie), nor that they (and I) could not leave a place that I had never visited :D The funny thing is that, working once again with droprep ... I noticed that, quite rightly, I did not even list the reputation with them (and it is logical ... I had never met) ... and it absolutely does not blink at all ... as an affiliate. (Not flashed anyone ... in fact) Boh. has remained a mystery ... Something about IFF and droprep - Hawkins - 10-05-2010 Had something like that few weeks ago with the char who still hasn`t freelancer IFF. Befor undocking I made sure I have no IFF. As I was flying to coronado, anther player sdviced me that I have Phantom IFF (!). still no IFF was shown but the /droprep once again had to be done. fortunatly there was no RP incident with that, the other player was smart enough to recognize my behaviour as not phantomlike and we managed the problem ooRP hehe. |
