As said in the subtitle of the topic, everybody can read this discussion,
but I would like that only zoners post since it is about roleplaying zoners.

Hi,

With all the recent events involving Zoners I was wondering how we could take into account Zoners Non Player Characters in the disco roleplay. The fact is that there are maybe 30 zoners players on the server but there are several hundred or thousand zoners in Sirius. Regarding trade/technology/docking/etc negotiations between factions and zoners I believe the NPC should be taken into account to prevent a few players to handle negotiations (as in freeport 9 and 5 for instance).

What I propose is to define roleplay guidelines for each stations according to their geographical location and role in Sirius economy.

These guidelines would be written by zoners factions but also zoners indies could be involved in the process.
Note that in game, the factions would not control the stations (excepted those that are already controlled by the factions).

A virtual character, governor of the station, would be create to apply the guidelines. And if someone wants to make a deal with a particular station he has to negotiate with its governor. When the guidelines would not be sufficient to solve a specific matter, then a vote between zoners factions leaders and indies could be made to decide what is deciding by the governor. Note also that a normalization system could be used during the vote to reflect the influence of each faction on a particular base.

Note that I am also open to other proposition to solve this NPC matter.

factions as advisors - but not owners of stations ( except guard systems, as these ARE property of the faction ) is a good thing.

the rather doubious stuff with players RPing leaders is a flaw - and setting a guideline and acting on behalf might be a good way to go.

factions and dedicated non-factionized players should set rough / general guidelines - so that a single player cannot just "give a station to a faction" or "make a deal that is detrimental to the zoner NPC faction in general or goes against any good taste of roleplay.

but all in all - maximum freedom to RP a station should be applied.

i see factions as "game-masters" on a local and small scale - to provide support and sometimes make the player aware of possible consequences ( or in extreme cases - ask the player to stop before something becomes a mess )

NPCs are NPCs - and as long as they are around, they do the factions regular stuff. - players are usually VIPs of sorts.. NPCs are commoners - and leaders, players take up roles in between

There are more Zoners out there than you know. Although many of us disdain organization and government, so you wont see us voicing up on matters of politics. Some of us were members of the Council of Zoners, and saw how little an "organization" of Zoners helps anything. In terms of the NPC's I would say that most Zoners go about their everyday lives with little concern for politics. They patrol a base, or ship some supplies, they dont care about anything more than 3 squares and freedom from governmental organizations.

I should have added that the vote is open only to zoners and that those who votes should identify themselves. Note also that the vote is a survey, not an official vote leading to some decision.

We can't RP NPCs. NPCs are still like in vanilla. Things in current Disco are far more complicated than there were in vanilla. Every independent Zoner should RP as independent Zoner. Currently there is not possible to RP as governor or representative of the whole Zoners. Only factions can do that in the name of their own group. People in disco don't understand that, currently nobody can be representative of Zoners as NPC faction. The former Zoners body - ZA was destroyed by community offensive, and now the same community requires from Zoners a one leadership. THERE IS NOT ANY ZONERS LEADERSHIP. Every Zoner acts in his own name, and every faction acts in their own name. Roleplay guidelines?, we will see what future will bring us.

I said "No" on this. To me, NPC's are NPC's!

Nor will their be! I just wish some of the house governments would realize that and stop insisting that Zoner factions can handle the issues of Freeports that they have no real authority over.

Moebus, I can clearly feel some kind of quasi-government run by the unity of Zoner players that in fact looks like the old fashioned way to deal with negotiations in your suggestion. Well, to be honest, I would like to see more independedt groups of Zoners basing on one or another Freeport plus Zoner factions running a certain station or a number of them. That way we can have like half of Freeports technically inhabited by players and the rest can have that virtual governor that will be run by groups or factions that run the nearby Freeports.

It will help to avoid creating too complex system that will allow Zoners of Freeport 14 affect decisions of Zoners of Freeport 11, will give Zoners to create more independent groups and take responsibility of a station or two. Of course, we can all together decide what group is good enough to run a station, but I think that my point is a bit clear here. I vote for decentralization and separation here.

The same thing here.

Reading over this i don't quiet understand exactly what your asking. But i think Yes keep Zoner NPCs. Why you ask? well jinx explained it well. you all are acting as if the Zoners are going extinct! what is wrong with ya'll? There is an old saying that goes like this, "Time heals all wounds".

There is a special pleasure in roleplaying a common character in Freelancer Universe, or nearly common - a Dromadeary pilot with his short-range tading and other stuff.
