Lane Hackers - Drake - 12-04-2007 I was thinking... We have so many new factions pop up, or try to pop up, yet we still don't have a Lane Hacker faction. A real Lane Hacker faction, that is, as the Hellfire Legion has even said themselves that they aren't 'really' Lane Hacker pirates, it was just the best option for the RP that they wanted. Anyway, why is this? Hackers are about the closest you can get to a generic NPC pirate faction with access to a large portion of House space. Surprised we haven't seen any try to pop up. Disclaimer: I'm not saying that anyone needs to run out and make a Lane Hacker faction. We have plenty of factions. I just found it odd that we don't have a real Hacker faction. Blarg. That is all. Lane Hackers - Zapp - 12-04-2007 I think most people would consider the Hellfire Legion a real Lane Hackers faction. Of course, we still need Bundshuh, Farmer's Alliance, and Xenos factions, and come to think of it, the Nayihiya (never can remember how to spell it) isn't a "real" Liberty Rogues faction, either, by their RP. They're affiliated, but not actual Liberty Rogues, by what I understand and have read. Private armies. HF doesn't pirate, for example. [N] (can't spell it either) are closer to their parent faction (Rogues)... They're sort of an entire culture who were forced into being an outcast society. A smallish group among the larger Liberty Rogue NPC faction. Lane Hackers - Monk - 12-04-2007 Yes, HF is more of the military force behind Lane Hackers dedicated to crushing liberty...I feel a Lane Hacker pirate faction would be welcome...there are several empty systems between california and kepler that they could inhabit...though i would like to hear what denelo has to say about it... HF and AW are completely different. Both are pretty much private armies with their own agenda, above and beyond that of their parent faction. Both have their own very unique diplomacies with only slight ties to those of their parent faction (for example, HF is friendly with the Black Squadron, when the Outcast Alliance is an enemy of the Order). Neither are good examples of a player faction closely mirroring their NPC faction brethren (such as KNF or TBH or whatever), but are both good examples of unique ideas that fit into the Freelancer universe (as opposed to, say, DIC). But I digress... Lane Hackers - Van - 12-04-2007 When I first started Disco, Lane Hackers were the very first NPC faction I associated with. I received an anonymous hand out, bought a ship, and just explored, all the while Flying a Zoner Tag (did not know I had one, or even how I got one) with a Lane Hacker I.D. I was completely daunted by the depth that surrounded me, and no clue where I could fit in. From what I could tell, the only Lane Hackers out there were the HF, and I maybe saw them once (I do not think I even saw one Lane Hacker I.D. on any other ship aside from that one HF). Also, while I was floating around, I was ganged up on by a few BSG and killed, without even a word spoken. I was confused, to say the least. (irrelevant, just a memory) Then, Junkers picked me up by random PM (something about me must have screamed "New", I guess), and I have been a somewhat production and maybe even a little bit contributing Disco addition since, all the while wearing the Junker insignia. ...Where was I going with this... oh, right! Love the Lane Hackers, but was not confident enough in myself to stay one, due to lack of required knowledge I believe. If you are going to RP as one, you might as well know Computers, Hacking, Business and Management (Lane Hackers are my favorite also for their structuring, and their goals), but most of all, it would be very hard to be a Lane Hacker solo. Most pirate factions are just that, pirates. But Lane Hackers, they are more. They pirate, sure, but they are also business orientated, selling information, buying assistance, all means of making profit so that they can live ideal lives. They focus on themselves, not others, like the Corsairs and Outcasts do in their war and hate for each other. It would require detailed and deep Role Playing to be one, I think, with excellent connections to ally factions in order to successfully RP. A Lane Hacker with no one to sell info to or to work with in identifying transports with specific cargo would be nothing more than an ordinary Pirate, and I think they have/had an I.D. for that. (I guess a eprson could have a Lane Hacker Tag with a Pirate I.D. and have an easy enough time Role Playing...) ...Damn, I forgot where I was going with this again... In Conclusion ('cause I know I should shut up now), Lane Hackers are the best Faction in Sirius, followed closely, if not tied with, the Junkers. At least I think so. Lane Hackers - Denelo - 12-04-2007 No, the Legion isn't a "real" Hacker faction. We used to be Drake's private army, yeah, but it's kinda hard to be the private army of someone you can't seem to find. So now we're just sort of and anti-Liberty-Navy military... fixed our rep a bit, too. But yeah, a "real" Hacker faction, eg., one who RPs and the actual Hackers themselves, and purely as the NPC faction, would be very much welcome. It would be excellent to have some support (as AW never comes, and Nayehiya [Sorry if I misspelled] is kinda small). The Lane Hackers are an interesting and very unique faction, if you look at them. While they're pirates, they're also informants, with a better information network than the LSF often. They sell information and buy Cardimine, and they know everything about Agira's Trade Lanes, as well as the shipping that goes through them. If someone were to make a Hackers NPC-based faction, I have a few system suggestions too. So yeah, I'd love it if someone made one of these factions, IF they RP'd it well. Lane Hackers - mjolnir - 12-04-2007 I was actually thinking about starting an Ageira faction :) but don't know if any people would be interested to play them ([KoF] refused)... so I think I'll let it go for now... I've always thought that Ageira was one of the more interesting trader factions in Freelancer, along with Cryer. That said, I wouldn't be interested in an Ageira faction... I have enough characters I don't get to use. |
