He never liked to talk about his past childhood in Orleanais. In fact, it's believed that he joined the Royal Navy détachements in the Gallic Border Worlds for the sole purpose of cutting any kind of relationship with his family (or what was left of that family after a divorce and a missing sister). Probably he could have chosen moving to Lyonnais or Île-de-France and isolate himself in one of those over-populated planets. But safety wasn't something Aubert cared about, and that's why he became another kid willing to play the mad game of war.

His mind reached a calm state when he could watch the Jump Gate connecting Burgundy with Île-de-France locking itself. Now he would not have to hear anything related to Orleanais anymore. Those endless hours listening to the rants of his father were finally gone. The moment Aubert placed a foot on the docking bay of the Battleship Beuvray, he sighed. It was time to start a new life.

The two years he spent at the military academy allowed him to prove his point about the Serval being his only friend to rely on, because if there was something Aubert always wanted to preserve, it was his anonymity, and that attitude never helped him to make any friend. He was just another Sous-Lieutenant (and eventually Lieutenant) submitting the mandatory reports after finishing the patrols around Burgundy and Dauphine. Of course, after months and months battling a 'bunch' of wrathful workers fighting for freedom, his weak mind would either collapse or turn him into a cold-hearted individual. It could be said that he never reached the latter, but it can be ensured that Aubert developed a somewhat acid attitude toward many of his wingmen, the people he only had contact with.

Why would he care about the rest? Now he was trapped in a hell-hole, and he only had in mind staying alive at all costs.

"When I decided to resign from my spot as commandant in the Royal Navy, I honestly wasn't sure about the decision I made. I spent months and months diving into Languedoc, slaughtering -or trying to- every single Council wing we stumbled upon, scouting Champagne... and now I was returning to the the place I wanted to avoid from the beginning? No way, I knew there was something wrong with me. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to earn a stay in one of those resorts in Nevers for a week. Michelle was right, I just needed a damn break..."
Even when his short holidays were over, Aubert couldn't gather enough courage to rejoin the ranks of the Royal Navy. This time, he decided to try the joy of being a mercenary, basically shooting the same people he did back in the days as Royal Navy pilot but having a wide selection of employers to work for. He even managed to establish contact with one of those Corse families (La Brise de Mer, to be more precise) which could have ended in a nice money income for Aubert, even more than the Navy itself could offer. Why would he complain? He was given a modified cargo scanner found in the Sirius black markets by this Veuve Noire persona -for free- and claimed enough money to buy fuel for three weeks.

But for some reason, Aubert didn't last long as a mercenary so he finally took a step forward and rejoined the Royal Navy, back to see the old faces, back to fight in the name of the King and... what else? Back to hate some people there.

"My time had come. I knew it the moment I saw the Death itself waiting for that Bretonian Templar to deliver the final blow. That day I felt something that people were most of times unable to describe, but the moment I saw myself unable to eject from my ship in flames, I did understand it: Fear. "
