So like yea, my laptop fell off my fan stand I have for it, and it landed on my USB port where I have my mouse plugged in...

And now, the mouse part you plug in is bent, but still works. So, should I risk trying to bend it back so I can turn the mouse off?

*It's a wireless mouse, and you put the plugin into the bottom of the mouse to press the off button*

When I tried that I woke up in hospital.
And no, I don't reccomend that you bend it back.

USB uses low voltage currents, so electrocution isn't a risk. Most of the times the plug itself will allow for a little movement/bending, and only the plug's casing will be bent, not the signal pins. At worst, you'll end up buying a new wireless mouse if you bend it back.

That's like, worst case scenario, cause there's no way in hell I can afford a new mouse, or play Freelancer with the mousepad.

OH, and here's a pic, if that'd influence the bending or not-bending vote

Oh, and I can't turn the mouse off because this thing is what's used to put into the little grove in the mouse to turn it off

Just be careful if you decide to bend it back.

Can't you switch off the mouse by using a pencil or something?

Don't bend it unless you have a soldering iron to do repairs.

Im surprised that thing still works.
If you bend it right now there is a good chance the pins inside will snap.

No, it's like a little notch sticking up, and when you put this back into the mouse, it holds it down, keeping the mouse turned off.

First check if you can get that part seperately. I mean buying it. Sometimes those stuff can be bought seperately for a much lower price than the whole pack.

Then, bend it back.

USBs are not that fragile. Pinned stuff like VGA ports or IDE ports are MUCH MORE fragile than that and even they can handle a bending or two.

My idea of course, use at your own risk. Life...

Leave it in, pop the battery in the mouse to turn it off.

You can probably bend it. Worst case scenario is that you spot $2 for a wireless mouse from the bargain bin, I think. Like Ophidian said, IDE ports are much more fragile, and I've bent quite a few of those in and out of functionality. This is why SATA drives are infinitely better.

If you're too poor to buy a new wireless mouse, I rather think you should reconsider your values. Freelancer is not so important that you can't hit up the bargain bin for a new mouse. >.>
