Lawfully using a Slave Liner? - podgie_bear - 11-23-2010

Is there a way of using a Slave Liner with an independant ID? It seems to me that Except for Orbital Spa & Cruise, only unlawfuls can use one.

I'm looking to RP a 'Tramp Steamer' type of character, one who likes his drink a little too much and who flies a beat'up old liner that OS&C would turn their nose up at. I'm looking to transport Refugees, 2nd class passengers (maybe 3rd class) and using OS&C ID and IFF just doesn't fit the character (they would strip it from him rather that allow him to tarnish their reputation) but at the same time, although he is down on his luck, he is still on the right side of the law and won't touch slaves or any other illegal cargo!

Is there a way I can do this? I have searched through the ID's on the Wiki and there doesn't seem to be one, which seems rather stupid. Especially since a Freelancer ID lets you fly anything up to and including a gunboat, but not a liner. So what is a lawful (if disreputable) Liner Captain supposed to use?

Any ideas anyone? :(

Junker ID would fit best I suppose.

They are not the richest in space so moving around poor people might be ok.

at least I see it as the only possible ID you could use.

we ARE the richest in space, foo.

Junker ID is lawful, and I've seen many a player running around with human (non - slave) cargo in that liner.

you will have to remember also: People are stupid.

By this I mean that no matter how you RP, some firing on one brain cell will see a "slave" liner and shoot you regardless. I've thought about flying one lawfully as well, but this little hiccup always stops me.

So remember: People are stupid.

Think about a prison liner. Junker ID allows it, as well as slave liner, and it looks allmost just like the Enterprise Luxury Liner

Actually, they can't. At least, not without getting sanctioned. See...there are no house laws against Slave liners. At all.

Lolprats in lolberty have banned the "Pirate" line, but not the "Slave" liner.

I myself have also thought of having one of these beasts as a slightly paranoid trader who likes a little more firepower, but the "Slave" in the title has stopped me because of the possible situation you described.

Solution - change its damn name to "Pilgrim" Class Liner.

I agree. The SU is dead and the Slaver ID is a useless offshoot of the Smuggler one anyways.

On the OPs topic... Just use a Junker ID. It fits well enough.

Well Since It's not written "You cannot use it without a specific ID" (just written : Mostly used by Slavers) I guess you can use it if the ID you use said you can use liner.

I rp one with a researcher ID since one the ship looks to a scientific ship to me.

Quote:The first days of mankind's exploration of the Sirius sector employed enormous vessels to traverse the dark spaces between neighboring stars. These large and imposing vessels were extremely utilitarian and provided little in creature comforts, placing instead emphasis on self-sufficiency and the fortitude to endure.

This said that it's is an old liner build for exploration and long travel.
Some slaver use them to do this.
Quote:With the advent of modern travel systems near the end of the fourth century, the use of such vessels quickly fell to the wayside leaving drifting husks to the vast debris fields that marked the epochs of space expansion. So they remained until came a time where men again had use for them. Slavers. With their vast holds, massive life support systems and robust armories, these mammoth fortress vessels made ideal platforms for which to ply a trade in human flesh.

But I guess you can use it for other things.

BUt I don't want it to look good, I want it to look like a beat'up old wreck, held together with scrap bits, captained by a alcoholic old deadbeat and crewed by a bunch of misfits that no reputable cruise line would hire. The sort of 3rd class tramp steamer that hauls between ports that no-one else will bother to visit.

Thanks everyone, I had considered Junkers ID, but wasn't sure that they would let a alcoholic misfit of a captain haul passengers under their ID. So I just need to raise some more cash and I'll be in business. :yahoo:
