First attempt at Photoshop, see my signature below.

Any tips on how to make the edges "pop" a bit more, or anything else you can find "off" with it?:P

My method:
  1. Crop pictures
  2. Fiddle with blending effects
  3. Brush in effects
  4. Fiddle some more
  5. ???
  6. Profit!!!

This garden gnome you speak of, ask where I can find these tech brushes. ASK HIM NOW!!

What I can suggest is to observe composition rather than the tools. Tools can be learnt faster, afterall the program itself has a help option. Composition knowledge is important. The weight of an image, the placing of the elements etc. I suggest looking to good artwork artists and their stuff, learning how their ship comes forward while the rest stays at the back etc etc.

I learnt a lot from Todd Lockwood both by asking him and by observing his book(s) and art. www.toddlockwood.com is the website.

Tools, tools are easy, just learn the shortcuts and don't be afraid to **** it up and start again =)

Never use the Flare tool. Number one rule of photoshop.
If you have to use it you better damn well know how, and no one should know you used it.

I believe that Igor (Smokey) is the gnome in question. While tech brushes are all good, they often do not add to the signature as a whole. However, when used correctly, they look awesome as seen below:

Your sig is very very nice as well, nice and clean. As a ponderous Dutch Edam cheese once told me; "((((((:".

Keep up the good work, it's not always about tutorials and tech brushes, the more you mess around with Photoshop, the more fun you'll usually have using it.

It's a pretty good first attempt. Shame about the len flare and text styles though, they just don't fit into the sig that much for me.
