Hello all,

I've been peeking around the forums for a little while now and have been impressed by the ship designs offered by the community. I wonder, however, if anyone here has made any attempts to redesign their user interface and HUD-- and whether Discovery plans to offer alternative designs in future releases.

The vanilla interface is aesthetically pleasing, but I can only handle so much blue. Considering that RP is so valued by the Discovery community, I'd be interested to see what people have come up with in regards to their UI. You spend more time looking at your UI and HUD than your ship, after all-- and I wouldn't imagine a Lane Hacker would want the same display as the LSF, or a Corsair the same as an Outcast, etc etc. In a way, how your UI can be an extension of your character.

I've spent a bit of time on my display and have a few shots to share of my UI/HUD. The setup I'm working on at the moment is called "Steel and Black":

Full HUD + open window:

HUD shown again to display transparency of target/shipinfo windows:

Minimized HUD (transparency removed for nnbox and minimized bars):

It's still a work in progress-- and I'm currently stumped on a few things:

Can you change the font colors/color overlay for icons? (I can work around the blue color overlay for icons, but the font is a different matter.)
Is there any way to extract the models for frames and alter them? Or, does anyone know how to create them from scratch? HardCMP and Milkshape cannot display them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, I look forward to seeing what others have come up with!:D

Thanks! The font is a personal taste:)I'll probably toy around with some others.

Your ideas intrigue me, and I would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

There are a couple of mods out there that modify a person's HUD, and since they only affect your own computer (like the mod that lets you change your avatar to something other than Trent), they could probably be used at the same time as Disco without a problem.

Sigh.. like I said it's a personal taste. The fonts are the easiest aspect to change. Here's the same thing with the default:

Your creativity is impressive and I am interested in personalizing my configuration if there is a simple way of doing it. So, how do you do it?

or, are you willing to provide the service for a fee?

The HUD and UI elements are stored in DATA\INTERFACE and Discovery doesn't alter anything in that directory , other than keylist.ini, keymap.ini, and infocardmap.ini (as far as I can tell)-- none of which pertain to the display. So it should be just fine, although I wouldn't mind hearing the Discovery developers opinion on that:)

Thanks a lot! Well, I can craft a UI/HUD to someone's specifications, but it does take a good amount of time and some things just aren't possible to change in the way you want to-- if you had an idea for a color scheme and could provide some specific .tgas for certain aspects like the background texture, I can see what I can do. A fee might be expected depending on the work it takes.

I can detail how to change the UI on your own, but my way of doing it might not be the best way-- which is why I was hoping to hear from other people who have done it. However, I'll write something up on how I go about it, and if you want you can try your own modifications. It will probably be sometime tommorrow, though. I need some sleep now.
