EVE - nerfherder - 12-26-2007

If you've always wanted to try EVE, the world largest Online Science Fiction RP Game, they are now offering a 14 day free trial period. I've gone through two trial periods, uninstalling the first when the time ran out, and re loading it. and starting over with a new character.
It's situation is very similar to that of Freelancer, except it is much farther in the future, and really far far away.

http://www.eve-online.com/

game boasts over 5000 fully explorable solar systems, and it is a bit un-nerving to go on line and see over 40,000 players at one time. It averages just about 20,000 players at any given time.
I myself have been in a system that only had just over 300 players at the same time!
they have a great tutorial for beginners, that take you through the steps of getting around in the EVE universe, and some really hard missions, some i haven't been able to complete.

It has two different downloads, classic at over 600meg, and the Trinity at 1.2gig.

I will still come back to Freelancer, in some ways just not the same.

Noooooooooooooo!

Not another one! We lsoe someone else to the EVIL clutches of EVE! That game is like a black hole that eats Freelancer players! Don't get sucked in!

Anyways, its an alright game. Just not the same as FL.

EVE - Heartless - 12-26-2007

I've seen some videos on youtube, and it looks VERY complicated... maybe I'll try the trial someday.

I can't play EVE... Its bores me. Completed the tutorials and tried a mission. I just miss the way fighting is in Freelancer.

EVE - Anubis - 12-26-2007

i played eve but came back. eve really is great for my style, aim the guns and fire not actually flying. i loved my minmataar sniper ship:)

This is because you haven't done level FOUR missions.. Trust me, they are not boring (until you have about 15 million skill points, one of the best battleships in the game, and 8 425mm prototyp Railguns with Magnetic Stabilizers that increase your damage by yet another 20%.. Then it can sometimes.. >.> )

Think; 16 battleships vs your battleship.. Thats level IV missions for ya. Or level V (5) missions where your fighting multiple Dreadnaughts and Carriers.. Yeah, that gets boring because your dead in 5 minutes..

And there is always 0.0 security space.. 200 vs 200 player fights with dreadnaugts, carriers, battleships, tech-2 cruisers and battlecruisers..

Incredible depth in EVE-online.

You can specialise in any number of ways for rewards. Mine, manufacture, invent, trade stuff in a supply and demand market, explore for hidden resources...or just be a jack of all trades.;)

It doesn't have to be all about PvP if you don't want it to be...although many don't seem to have patience for more than the "pew pew".

0.0 is supposedly a no rules sandbox. Only problem is most of the alliances do have rules such as NBSI(Not Blue Shoot It), which means it's not generally a very friendly place.

The great thing is you only need to grind for ISK(currency). Skills are time based and keep training when you're not playing.
If you earn enough ISK, you can buy game time from those who can't be bothered working for it.

1st and most difficult barrier for me:

I don't feel like paying for something I don't have to pay for.

2nd - as much as I'm an RTS playa, I prefer seeing the units from up close and piloting them myself if possible (BattleZone anyone?)

3rd - Disco still has aces up its sleves. Who knows what disco will look like in say... 5 years?
