So, how's that syfy rebranding workin' for ya so far? - Marburg - 12-20-2010 It's been over a year now that the Sci-Fi network rebranded into SyFy in order to try & appeal to a bigger audience. Have you paid attention to their lineups since then? Like the network or hate it, if your inner geek were given the job as program director, what would you do with the channel? Bring on the opinions. I know I got a few hundred on it. So, how's that syfy rebranding workin' for ya so far? - Virus - 12-20-2010 I haven't watched TV since they changed their name and added reality TV. I literally stopped watching the SyFy channel cold turkey when they changed their name... Ghost Hunters has no place on the scifi channel. and all those C-grade monster movies, urrg No. To me it almost seems as if there are two seperate sci-fis. You get the fairly good shows they produce, like SGU, Sanctuary, Eureka, Caprica and so forth, and then the reality crap and all those horrifically horrifically bad movies. I would ask to change the budget so there would be more money coming in from the commercial placement and allocating that extra income to movie makers. Because lately, all the movies with the "SyFy" tag really sucked a donkey's 00. So, allocating more money to the movie makers would yeild better quality CG and, perhpas, better script writes. But now, whenever the prime times are not on it's just reruns and low budget movies. So, how's that syfy rebranding workin' for ya so far? - Marburg - 12-20-2010 I know that the name change itself simply stemmed from NBC-Universal wanting to trademark the name. Since they couldn't trademark a genre name, they just added the y's. One of the funniest things I saw about that was some post somewhere making fun of their slogan. SyFy: Imagine Greater Syfy: Imagine Grammar  Anyhoo, back when I got cable installed in the new place, I was psyched about Sci-Fi 'cause I thought there would be alot of cool things to watch...Boy, I had it wrong on toast! I figured out in 2 days that besides BSG, all they had was crap. (save for an occasional rerun or flick that my inner stoner wouldn't mind rewatching) Since then, Syfy just got worse from there. If I were still a 13 year old boy though, I'd probably love it. They have 5 separate 'Ghost Hunters' shows. (the original & 4 spin-offs) Some pseudo reality show based around a frumpy NJ housewife psychic & soon, they will air a cooking show of some type The only redeeming quality that network has left imo is Eureka. They axed Caprica solely based on fanboy bitchings SGU is also officially history & will never re-enter production & The Amerified 'Being Human' is probably going to end up as crap compared to the original That's really all they've got I don't count the hours & hours of pro wrestling & Sharktopus type movies they air, cause my head would explode in irritation There...I feel a little better for venting. I'll figure out what I would do if it were my job to fix the syfy cluster eff & just post that later:) So, how's that syfy rebranding workin' for ya so far? - Alley - 12-20-2010 SyFy decided to stop Stargate Universe. Guess what ? The actors and the producers learned that SGU was cancelled by a twitter message at the same time as everyone else found out.
