Universal Shipping - bus - 12-28-2007
First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is written to the left of this post:Dand I only started playing Discovery a couple of days ago. I have a character called Bus currently flying an Universal Shipping Rhino in the Liberty space and I've been looking in the forums for some trader clan / faction that would resemble Universal or some other (preferably Liberty-based) corporation. Unfortunately, most of the traders here seem to be Zoners which is exactly the opposite of what I'm looking for. So the question is simple, does anybody know of any faction that would fit in better?

Most Zoner traders are "faux" Zoners, but getting to the point, there are:
RepEX (based on Rheinland), IND and LC, all are reputable trading firms.
Do a search for them on the forum.

Oh yes Independents, I forgot all about them, thank you Zelot and snowm. What I don't get is why are they flying under Interspace Commerce IDs? I always thought that IC is a financial institution that deals in banking and insurance, not trading -- but I guess that doesn't matter too much. What I really don't like about Independents is their "try not to get caught smuggling" attitude. I understand that profits can be made in various ways but supporting criminals is not what I'm looking for.
RepEx - sounds interesting, I'll read more about it.
What is LC, I couldn't find that one. Could you give a full name please?

IND's one and only goal is money. They trade to acquire great sums of money for banking purposes (I think). Anyway, there is no faction for Universal Shipping, only one of the other corporations Zelot and Snowm mentioned. But you can still fly around as an Universal Shipping guy.;)

Well as a spoiled trader i can tell you that flying under a banner is more my style. I had 2 independent traders running around, the first has a very solid RP background, the second was just a mere "undercover" trader that i used when things were getting too hot under my feet...
I say RepEx fits you best, there a "real" company, although i wouldnt hire half of the staff... lazy bas#&@*%. (j/k)
Read around, but keep RepEx as a first option, there are many unofficial trading party's. You can join them, but its just not the same.

The obvious downside is that there is very little actual roleplay involved being just a random dude from US, since they seem to be neutral to pretty much anyone besides pirates.

Hey, thanks for the comments! Yes, RepEx (almost said FedEx there:D) seems to be a solid shipping company, I'll do some more research on it. I hope they're not another one of those "you can do almost anything" factions that put more emphasis on profits than on actual roleplay.
Another quick question if I may, would it be OK to use Kadesh Freighter while I'm still flying under Universal Shipping ID? I noticed that they sell Kadesh Light Fighters in Liberty to Liberty coprporations but I've only seen the Kadesh Freighter in Rheinland so I'm not sure what's the Rheinland's policy about exporting these ships.

Well, you don't strictly need to be in a guild to be a shipper. But it helps.. maybe you should start up a small Universal Shipping guild.
I'm a Universal Shipping train Captain, and I force myself to do runs that you often see Universal doing. (Most notably, Gate lane parts/Engine Components, which DSE build)
My base of operations is obviously Trenton, over Manhattan, so you'll often see me around there, while my train gets loaded with cargo.
